Spent some time earlier today with Windows 10. I figured it's supposed to bring a nice performance boost and be the most secure and advanced version of windows yet. So I clicked the upgrade button...

The upgrade of windows went smoothly with no issues. Good job there Microsoft.
Then I had to manually update my graphics drivers as windows wasn't recognising them and giving me some yucky screen res. Easy enough to fix considering everything else seemed in order.

Driver update went fine as well.

Then I opened the Nvidia control panel to turn on SLi...

There I was asking myself "have Nvidia moved the maximize 3D performance setting to another menu..." whilst clicking though all the menu's.

After much clicking I decided to check out device manager and it seems Windows 10 doesn't  like SLi much. Code 12 was the error next to my 2nd gpu. Apparently it couldn't allocate resources to it.

So after much web searching I decided that it was essentially a rather large 'bollock' that Microsoft have dropped here and it would appear that Nvidia haven't fixed it either. Lots of people have the issue and some have resolved it but the fixes don't work for everyone.

So my impression was good but rollback was necessary as that is a rather large bollock to have dropped.

Two women were playing golf. One teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole.
The ball hit one of the men. He immediately clasped his hands together at his groin, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in agony.
The woman rushed down to the man, and immediately began to apologize. 'Please allow me to help. I'm a Physical Therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow me, she told him.
'Oh, no, I'll be all right. I'll be fine in a few minutes,' the man replied.. He was in obvious agony, lying in the fetal position, still clasping his hands there at his groin.. At her persistence, however, he finally allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, loosened his pants and put her hands inside. She administered tender and artful massage for several long moments and asked, 'How does that feel'
Feels great, he replied; but I still think my thumb's broken!

EA Sports Rory Mcilroy PGA Tour...

So I was really looking forward to playing this and pre ordered pretty much as soon as I saw it available. Now I don't regret doing so but if I'm honest I'm a more than a little bit disappointed.

The overall game plays quite nicely, the new 'tour' swing control option is nice and makes you work harder than the well recognised 'arcade' style zoom to the expected point of ball landing controls. It also requires an accurate pace as well as angle in the through swing which adds to the difficulty and reward as well as realism.

But the game falls short in a lot of areas that I didn't expect to see from such a big franchise.
Lack of courses, lack of career character customisation options, lack of play modes and upside down custom spin/shot controls.

So firstly there are only 8 courses. I'm hoping and guessing more will be added and hopefully as free of charge dlc as the game was expensive enough so this is certainly a big disappointing factor right now.

Character customisation. Historically, you could spend as little or as much time as you liked trying to make you golfer look like it was you in the past. Its one of those bits that's always been fun to do if you like to do that sort of thing. Apparently the latest generation of games console can't handle such creativity as you get a choice of male/female, muscular/average/large build, short/average/tall and a choice of 11 or 12 present heads. Yes you can pick from a handful of hair cuts and you can change the eye colour but that's about it. Kinda crap really in this department.

So when playing locally or online (not tried online yet but I hear it works well enough) there is a distinct lack of game modes. Stroke or match play in fact. That's it. No skins (one of my favs) which is very popular or anything else. Come on EA! Pull your finger out, this is sorely disappointing.

Now as I said above, I like the new tour controls but setting the striking position on the ball to manually control the shot type is upside down. Its not rocket science to know that a flop shot requires a very low ball contact to loft it up high and even create a bit of backspin on the landing. Apparently EA decided that the laws of physics were wrong and made it so you have to strike the ball high to make this happen. And oddly low for a punch shot with a lot of top spin.... Whoever did this part of the research/programming should be fired lol.
And I've notice this carry into some of the greens too. The graphics and the grid blatantly show some of the holes to be lower than the player's standing position but the aim marker says it's up hill. Wolf Creek was a course I saw this on several times... Bug testers?

As a further nitpicking note. The camera animation between holes isn't the best. Its very mechanical, coming to a sharp stop and feels like it's on a perfectly level track. What happened to that gliding feel to the movement. That fade before the camera stops panning. The stop is the worst bit here as its like the camera man has walked into a tree its so sudden.

Some of these details are small and some are big but considering the game release was pushed back you have to ask what was being done in that time. It feels more like a beta release if I be completely honest, especially when you compare it to the franchise history.

The good side here is the actual game play is still reasonably solid and the frostbite 3 engine does look great as well as bringing better tree physics, its just very beta in the overall feel of the game when you consider what's missing and the other issues. With a bit of luck EA will pull their finger out and do some serious patching. Until then I would suggest holding back and watching out for news of such an update before parting with your cash unless you're desperate for a golf game.

Hmm
Using Windows 10 on a phone, computer, or games console should feel immediately familiar, and it turns out that phones are key to the pricing decision.

GUN POWDER AND OATMEAL

A TOUGH OLD COWBOY FROM TEXAS COUNSELED HIS GRANDDAUGHTER THAT IF SHE WANTED TO LIVE A LONG LIFE, THE SECRET WAS TO SPRINKLE A PINCH OF GUN POWDER ON HER OATMEAL EVERY MORNING.

THE GRANDDAUGHTER DID THIS RELIGIOUSLY UNTIL THE AGE OF 103, WHEN SHE DIED. SHE LEFT BEHIND 14 CHILDREN, 30 GRANDCHILDREN, 45 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 25 GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, AND A 40-FOOT HOLE WHERE THE CREMATORIUM USED TO BE.

The teacher asked the class to use the word 'fascinate' in a sentence.

Molly put up her hand and said, 'My family went to my granddad's farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.'

The teacher said, 'That was good, but I wanted you to use the word 'fascinate, not fascinating'.

Sally raised her hand. She said, 'My family went to see Rock City and I was 'fascinated.'

The teacher said, 'Well, that was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word 'fascinate.'

Little Johnny raised his hand.

The teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Johnny before.

She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word 'fascinate,' so she called on him.

Johnny said, 'My aunt Gina has a sweater with ten buttons, but her tits are so big she can only fasten eight.'

The teacher sat down and cried

Had that issue with Google Play Services using excess battery on my Nexus 6. Tried a few different things but the thing that fixed it for me was reverting Google Play Services back to factory install state then reinstall the updates from the play store. Since doing that it doesn't even appear in the battery usage list.

Update*

Turns out it didn't fix it as the problem came back after the 5.1.1 update. I tried the uninstall and reinstall again but no joy.
It seems the problem is to do with smart lock, turning that off has now resolved my battery drain issue. Bit of a pain to have to keep entering the pin but better than loosing battery at double the normal rate.
I had smart lock on for quite some time before I noticed they had introduced the on body detection. I did use that for a while then noticed the battery drain so disabled that element. So not sure if it's something to do with that or not but either way, smart lock is currently useless until Google fix it.

Another update. I don't think it was the Google Connectivity Services app that was the issue. Seems it was either Dumb Ways to Die 2 or Peggle. They both had updates around the same time too. Since removing those two apps my battery life has returned to normal. Took my phone off charge around 8hrs ago (my typical light text messages, music between jobs work use day) and I still have 71% left.
