So I go my new Pixel XL yesterday late afternoon. I've not had a lot of time with it yet as I spent most of the evening (when I finally got to sit down and set it up) restoring, apps, texts etc etc.
I'm impressed though. I've gone from a Nexus 6 that literally got the Android 7 update the evening before my Pixel arrived to this. It's smaller, lighter and far more comfortable to hold.
While it was downloading everything I stuck on a glass screen protector (from Spigen) and the basic clear (TPU?) case they sell on Amazon. And even with the case this phone is smaller than the Nexus 6. That half inch of screen space is surprising. It's about a whole key on Google's keyboard narrower. (So apologies for any typos).

So first impression. Construction of the phone feels great. It feels very well balanced and not top heavy like my N6 did or as I believe the N6p did. Probably also why they left the larger chin on the phone. Plus actually the chin puts the keyboard and on-screen buttons in better place than my N6.

I feel like I will miss the stereo front facing speakers from my N6 but so far, the sound quality of the bottom facing speaker is very good.

The screen is brighter than that of my N6. It feels like it's a bit more washed out in places but then the N6 was often lacking in brightness and too dark in places. Thing I think comes down to a personal preference. The blacks I've seen so far on the Pixel look incredible. I checked the phone when going to bed last night as I had a notification. It's hard (in a dark room with night mode on) to see where the bezels stop and the screen starts. Got to love Amoled.

I've not had much opportunity to play with the camera but it's certainly better than my N6 snapper. The speed (in default auto HDR+ mode) feels instant and the quality from the couple quick snaps I took is great. The dark quality is hugely better than that of my N6.

Pixel Launcher... This is one of the points I have a mixed opinion about. I like the new features, I like the swipe up for the all apps folder, I dislike the new round icons. I've always been a fan of Nova launcher and custom icon skins. In my opinion Google should allow custom icon skinning in their launcher. And as far as the stock icons go, I feel they looked better before. I think previous stock icons with a normalised size would have been a better move. These new round icons look a bit cheap and rushed. Maybe it's because I'm used to QHD custom icon packs that developers have spent time crafting but either way I probably won't stay using the Pixel Launcher long term as a result.
Also being able to resize the icon grid still hasn't appeared. I've always liked 7 icons wide and 9 tall. More room and less home screens.

The battery and OS efficiency seems amazing after using my N6. I had a load of screen on time last night messing about setting the apps up and trying to make a 5 icon wide grid working for me. I had just over 40% left. This morning I woke up to 39% after nearly 7 hrs sleep. I was surprised and impressed to say the least. If this is the new efficient Android then keep it up Google.
That and new android feels very responsive, with a clean mature design in the notification shade are all big big positives.

First impressions, I'm a happy customer.

*Update 3 days later

Loving this phone. Battery life is great, phone works great, Google assistant is better (mostly although not all the google now functionality has ported across to it yet such as checking text messages for you), camera is great.
Screen is better I feel, just a cooler colour than what I had become accustomed to over the last two years. But sharper and more crisp.

So I'm not a very happy customer.

Scientists believe to have found a way to make everlasting batteries, one you can charge and discharge thousands of times without losing capacity.

This is a conversation between a man and his wife.  Please note that she asks 5 or 6 questions which he answered quite simply and she is speechless after answering only one question.

Critical Thinking

At Its Best!

Woman:
Do you drink beer?

Man: Yes

Woman:
How many beers a day?

Man:
Usually about 3

Woman:
How much do you pay per beer?

Man: $5.00 which includes a tip(This is where it gets scary !)

Woman:
And how long have you been drinking?

Man:
About 20 years, I suppose

Woman:
So a beer costs $5.00 and you have 3 beers a day which puts your spending each month at $450.00.  In one year

, it would be approximately $5400.00 correct?

Man:
Correct

Woman:
If in 1 year you spend $5400.00, not accounting for inflation, the past 20 years puts your spending at $108,000.00 correct?

Man:
Correct

Woman:
Do you know that if you didn't drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought a   Ferrari?

Man:
Do you drink beer?

Woman:
No.

Man:
Where's your Ferrari?

Google Inbox or Gmail?

I've used both on android for over a year now. I've switch from Gmail to Inbox, then back to Gmail due to lack of signatures then as Inbox has updated back again. This back and forth has happened a few times in the last year.

I have spent most of my email time using Inbox in the last 6 months but there have been things that bug me I'm going to list some of these now.

Inbox doesn't show the email signature even though it attaches it to the email. Does it attach it to me replies too? From the app I can't tell but I don't believe it does. Gmail always shows the signature.

Just yesterday Inbox wouldn't let me bulk select files from Drive. This was most annoying so I reverted back to replying to an email from Gmail as attached images, docs etc is incredibly easy from Gmail.

The left side slide out menu is far less functional than Gmail's from a label point of view. I have gmail managing multiple different email accounts from hotmail, yahoo etc. Some of the labels which had the email address name listed in them were perfectly readable in the Gmail app. Inbox cuts the wording off way to early and it doesn't show the colour coding.
And a further point is you don't have the labels in the inbox view itself with Inbox. Also annoying and something I miss.

So if I switch back again what will I miss?

Mostly the reminders. I got fed up with he category sorting in Inbox. It often fudged the rules I asked it to remember, constantly put things in groups I told it to remember not too and didn't put things in I asked it to. So I binned that feature. (gmail has its own version of this but it seems less functional when I last tested it last year)
I'll mostly miss the snooze function and display of reminders in the inbox. I mostly use Todoist for task management but sometimes I'll use Keep if I'm setting a reminder off of a keep note or checklist and occasionally I'll Google now myself a reminder via voice control. Inbox made these other reminders easier to keep track of as they are in a place I frequently see. My inbox.

I like the way Inbox pulls out useful info from emails, like the key info from a shopping receipt or a calendar invite.

Google why can't you add all of one apps functionality to the other? Make them enable/disable options if you're scared to upset some hardcore fans from either camp. But please do something as right now I'm having to use both apps for different functions to attain the best results and its bloody annoying.

I think this is potentially a great idea as long as this wouldn't make it easier for hackers to gain access to the car cpu and high jack the vehicle as has been demonstrated in certain Internet connected cars already.
Ford has announced that the Apple Car-Play and Android Auto operating systems are to be introduced to its product line later this year.

It's ok, better since it became more family focused with less clubs and more food/entertainment places. Less trouble now

If you want cheap bowling then that's what you'll find here. The whole palace seemed a bit dirty and unpleasant. Personally I prefer to pay the extra to go to an establishment that isn't running on a show string budget. On the plus side it is on the seafront so there are other places you can go for food, drinks and further entertainment.

It's an ok place for a quick meet up for drinks and dinner with friends at short notice. Some of the restaurants get very busy and would be best to pre book but even if you don't I always find you can get I to one of the ones upstairs

Cool entrance to the pub but the overall experience didn't continue to keep up the coolness factor. Food was overpriced and disappointing. Service was nice and friendly
