Hey +Linus Torvalds, I am just so totally fed up with Linux's OOM behavior: As soon as a process loses control over its memory usage the kernel starts swapping like mad, rendering the computer useless for minutes: Unless swap got filled up and the OOM killer finally terminates the offender.

How about stealing from iOS? Before about considering to swap kindly ask allocating processes to reduce their memory usage. If these processes repeatedly fail to comply (by reducing memory usage or convincing the kernel by other means that everything is fine) kill them: They most likely ran into a bug and are out of control.

How about suspend to disk? Isn't swap needed for suspending notebooks still? How is that supposed to work with a swap file? If it isn't needed for suspend to disk at all, why not disable swapping at all? It's painfully slow with swap partitions and I doubt performance will become better if a file system joins the party. So if swap is not needed any more I'd rather disable it entirely: Having a few apps crashing certainly is better than sitting for dozens of minutes in front of a swapping machine that you fear to turn of because of possible disk corruptions.

Is there a 13" notebook with serious CPU? Something of i7-6820HQ/E3-1535M v5 scale?
