Mastered for Dynamic Reproduction!

Ispired by +Ian Shepherd's «Dynamic Range Day» I am working on a new guideline in Audio Mastering taking the step even further. «Mastered for Dynamic Reproduciton on a quality HiFi system» preserves more of the natural dynamic in music compared to todays standards.

Beeing so many types of music there is no minimum Dynamic Range required but more a invitation to master the album so that todays Audiophiles can enjoy music with more dynamic on their expencive HiFi system.

Why?
Over the years of music production the Dynamic Range has decreased and the quality of HiFi systems and signal to noise ratio has increased. When I work on my setup beeing Dynaudio Contour S3.4 powered by Electrocompaniet Nemo it is almost frustrating how much better it sounds giving the music a little more headroom. (Level matched ofcourse.)

How?
Using your ears listening on a quality HiFi setup freeing you from your go to levelmeter and only use that to make sure your in the same ballpark as the rest of us. It's about time we start pushing the Dynamic Range in the right direction.

Looking back at 2014 Heibø Lyd-Design made a lot of investments in equipment and software but the biggest change has been expanding our staff to a total of two! Training began early and he is already fully trained in the "Tap" button.

Happy New Year to all friends and co-workers!

Is beeing examined in a limited routine control by the tax authorities here in Norway. Bought equipment for NOK 140.000 in 2011 so I have become quite good in scanning receipts..

I have been playing around with Dante audio networking for a while using Lake LM26 http://lake.labgruppen.com/ and Audinate's virtual soundcard http://www.audinate.com/.

The Lake LM26 is a advanced audio system processor with the amazing Mesa Eq. In addition it has got Dante so you can route the signals whereever you want to other Dante enabled devices as long as it is on the same network. With Audinate's Dante viritual soundcard you can route the signals to your mac/pc and route signals from your mac to the processors.

It's a quite easy setup, but you really want to think about where you want to route your signals so that you get the most of your inputs/outputs.

The problem for me occurs sometimes when I hook it up and turn it on. I do really have problems getting Audinate to communicate with the Lake processor, leaving me sometimes without a "soundcard" on certain jobs. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

My Dynaudio speakers is finally set up again. Looking forward to a full check to see if they are still functioning optimal. The Lyngdorf poweramp will have to do for now, but hopefully be replaced during 2013. In a few months i will start working on the new listening room, that will have to be sound proof and sounding good. Hopefully I will get the time to post some pictures with description on my solutions. One thing is sure; I'm getting closer to post production on recording's!
