#Photography #Discussion: Photography & Ethics

Should major newspapers and magazine allow the publication of manipulated photographs? If so where should they draw the line?

If I had a penny for all the times I have heard and read this "Photoshopping" your photographs is cheating, I would be retired by now. At the public presentation that +Varina Patel and I have given we have people come up and say that using RAW format is cheating as well because you manipulating the image. Our explanation to compare RAW files to the film negative is quickly discarded.

Most photographer would be surprised to find out that the "Cheating" started long before there every was a film....when photographs were taken using a glass plate. Take a look at this article from Time Magazine:

http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1924226,00.html

It would be interesting to know that if you were the lead editor of a major magazine company or a newspaper how would you make decisions. There is no wrong or right...just different opinions.

I just played around a little and cropped this photo i posted some days ago. But i like it this way a lot more. Haven`t seen it before with the old version, but if cropped the lines of the handrail and the rails of the train make a nice vanishing point. What do you think ?

Here`s the link to the old version:

Introduction
It's what I do, random things that I do to occupy my time. Photography, collect & listen to music, read, cook, my occasional rant on my favorite sports teams and any thing else that may amuse me.

Liked the store, a large variety of music genres. My only knock on it was the fact that if you are short like me, you can't browse the upper bins of vinyl. That did disappoint me quite a bit.
