A Message from Our President:

Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, marked a truce to end of the hostilities of World War I. The truce occurred at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Hence why Veterans Day is always recognized on November 11th, regardless of the day of the week the 11th falls on. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson commemorated the first Armistice Day with these fine words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations..."

Armistice Day was originally set aside to only honor World War I veterans and in 1938 it was made a legal federal holiday. However, after World War II and the Korean War, Congress realized a need to expand the meaning to include recognizing all Veterans. In 1954, the word "Armistice" was replaced with "Veterans" as a way to formally include all Veterans of American wars in a day of remembrance.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the many men and women who have fulfilled, and continue to fulfill, the call to patriotic duty.  If you see a veteran today please say thank you; for it is their willingness to sacrifice which has allowed us to maintain the freedoms of our great country.

God Bless,

Ron Guerra, P.E.

The Sandusky Fire Department put on a fire extinguisher training at LEWCO today for the employees. Steve Rucker came out and went over what is on a fire extinguisher label, how to position yourself when using one, and the P.A.S.S. method. The P.A.S.S. method is Pull the pin, Aim the hose, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep back and forth until the fire is out. Each participant got to practice with an extinguisher and put out a fire. It was very informative and we would like to thank Steve for coming out today!
