We went there for new years eve. We allotted 2 hours for our dining experience and from multiple sources, heard this would be enough time. We arrived at 8 pm, were promptly seated at a great round booth. Then waited..............and waited..........and waited..........then waited some more. After 30 minutes of not seeing a single server come to our table, not even to drop off water, I went to the host to get some answers. He sent over the manager that was a complete pompous prick. He explained that there was a mix up and took our drink order. I explained that we had theater tickets at 10 and would like to put in our order. He scoffed both at the dining time a the fact that he would have to take our order. His response was "we'll see if I can remember your order." We were assigned a server and she was great and did her best to make up for the short comings around her (she is the reason they get 2 stars and not 1). However dinner still did not get to us till 9:35 (remember our original reservation was 8:00) when dinner arrived we asked for the check knowing that we would not be able to enjoy the dessert already paid for on a 4 course set menu. Dessert was wheeled out as we signed for the meal (which tasted great), the server was able to get us two gift certificates for $40 each (split amongst 2 couples). To redeem those we'll make reservations at 6 pm and expect to be done by closing time and don't worry we'll bring out own drinks to get started.

First fondue experience. How is that possible? I just don't know. How could I have ignored such cheesy melty goodness? I must be crazy. Thank the universe as I was recently invited to try out the "skinny drinks" along with the fabulous fondue at the downtown Brea location of The Melting Pot. Nestled in a tiny corner, The Melting Pot has a great location in the heart of downtown along with my other favorites - Merely Sweets and Bruxie. This location is also adjacent to three parking garages. Upon entering, I was impressed with the dark moody romantic interior. I was missing my +1 something fierce but had to quickly shake that off as I was being ushered into the plush patio, complete with lush booths, and a view of the bustling downtown scene. We were greeted by assistant manager, Amber and our server Shannon took care of our needs. The evening started with a selection of two cheeses: a Boston beer lager and a spinach artichoke. Of the two, I enjoyed the spinach artichoke much to my surprise. The Boston beer lager had a tang and spice that just didn't sit right with me. The cheese fondue experience comes with veggies, bread, and apples. I was surprised by the apples but they actually taste wonderful with the cheese. After licking our pots clean of cheese, we were served a sampling of salads. I love a good salad and the Brea location was generous enough to let us sample a hefty portion off their menu. Out of the offerings, I was impressed with the house salad, the spinach mushroom bacon, and the bleu cheese wedge. The house salad was the winner though. It was topped with a light vinaigrette, eggs, and plenty of cheese. I knew I'd like it as soon as I saw it probably because I'm a big egg and cheese fan. At the Melting Pot, you also get an opportunity to cook your meat. For this event, the staff prepared a selection for us that was soaked in a wine sauce. Out of this selection, I was once again impressed with the vegetarian selections - the green goddess tempura and mushroom pouch. These were served with an array of dipping sauces that I wish I could have bottled and taken home. Our decadent evening ended with a chocolate fondue dessert. Of course! We were served with a selection of cookies and cream dream fondue and a turtle fondue with pecans. Our chocolate fondue came with marshmallows, cheesecake, brownies, and pound cake. Throughout the evening, we had a chance to sample a variety of the cocktails on the menu. I was impressed by how much flavor the "skinny" cocktails had despite them being skinny. I'm usually not impressed with lighter cocktails. In their recent partnership with Voli Light Vodkas, a brand owned by Fergie and Pitbull, and Skinnygirl Vodka and Wines by Bethenny Frankel, the cocktails are light, refreshing, and whimsical. They are perfect for the Summer. My favorite "skinny" cocktail was the Mangolicious. It has a combination of Voli Lyte vodka, Monin mango syrup, sweet and sour, pineapple juice, and Moscato d' Asti. Moscato has been my favorite dessert wine for a while so this was the perfect drink for me. Overall, I could get to used to the fondue experience. All of my senses were ignited and I found love in everything I tasted.

The service was horrible, the worst I have ever experienced. The hostess did not smile once. We sat down and wasnt even helped for 10 minutes, then the manager acted as our server. My coffee and my wifes water was never refilled. someone brought our food out and never even acknowledged us. I would have complained to the manager but he was just as bad. I let nothing for tip, my 1st time I ever did that.

My friends and I were totally taken advantage of. Because of an incompotent wait staff, we were charged over $200 for CHEESE and DESSERT and only 5 people ate. How do charge $40 a person for cheese and chocolate fondue, when their menu states it would only cost you $15. When I talked to their manager Deanna, she defended her wait staff, and blamed me for everything. This restaurant doesn't care about their customers. STAY AWAY, THE MELTING POT IS A TOTAL RIP OFF!!!

Do you like overpaying for melted cheese mixed with water and wine complete with the smallest portion size they can give you set in a pseudo-classy environment served by snobs? If you answered "Yes!" then the melting pot is the place for you. My family recently went to the melting pot only to have this experience, the taste of the food was alright but I have every bit of confidence in the world I could manage to make a better fondue in my own home for about a quarter of the cost. The meat and cheese they provided was mediocre at best in quality, and what really got to me was the serving size. I am by no means a big eater, as is no one in my family, and the portion size was small. Three of us in my family are male, so naturally we are going to eat more than my mother. She says she ended up eating one shrimp and a slice of steak, by no means a satisfying meal for anyone. Dessert was alright, we got a flaming chocolate peanut butter fondue, tasty but overpriced. I would not recommend going here, your paying for the " ultimate fondue experience" as they call it (yeah right) If you want a similar experience go to shabu shabu or impress your date and family by making some awesome fondue yourself. I haven't been back since but one day I went in here to use their restroom and it was one of those "guest only" places, snobs.

I've been frequenting the Melting Pot for over a year and the wait times increased significantly, even on week nights that have significantly fewer people. Either the store is short-staffed or I've had consistently bad luck with servers, three times in a row recently, and with generous tipping. While the food is good, $60-$100 is a bit too steep when waiting 20 minutes between visits from the servers. Also, the air conditioning tends to run very cold, so bring a jacket! Unless you're really in the mood for fondue, I'd suggest heading somewhere else.

Great date place. Expect to spend at least two hours here dipping, eating and drinking. Really great way to way to spend some quality time with someone you care about. This is also a great place for a double date.
