Chris, we started this conversation when I asked a polite question regarding the claim you made that a donor could have saved "trillions of microbial species." As Carl Sagan said, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." You made a claim for which you have no evidence. Indeed such a claim is scientifically questionable to say the least. Then you chose to defend an indefensible claim. That's the basic problem. By hunkering down and refusing to admit to a simple error or oversight, you show that you are insecure about your claim. I provided a resource for you to follow up that could provide a credible independent opinion. If those scientists (or others with expertise in this field) agree with you, I have said I'd offer a public apology and retraction. That is, I have specified my response if you can provide verifiable independent evidence for your claim regarding the number of microbe species.

I don't know how Rainforest Trust is buying land that cheaply. I'd accept your point if you could provide our readers with more than links to webpages from people making the same claim (i.e., and independent verification or claim). Regarding Rainforest Trust's rating, CharityNavigator does not verify the nature or quality of programs run by a non-profit. They look at the 990 submitted to the IRS and other criteria that is self-reported. CharityNavigator's rating is a useful guide, but it's not evidence for the veracity of a non-profits claims regarding the benefits of its program.
