I think that Debenhams deserve some more publicity for the diversity of the people in their catalog. Thank you Debenhams for showing different kinds of people looking good.

I am reminded that I love this song. According to the author (lyricist?), 'This song was inspired when a friend of mine complained to me about a run-in with some Creationists, and asked "what can you say to such people?" The first words that popped out of my mouth were "humans wrote the bible. God wrote the rocks."'

It helps that they sing it so beautifully.

i believe that dave introduced that song the first time i heard it by saying, "this is my evolution-goddess-song response to all those creationists trying to claim rights to the good spirituals"

With a tally of 9136 published scientists to 1, it is time to move beyond "Does anthropomorphic climate change exist?" and on to "What should we do about climate change?"

I particularly found the graph illuminating. I thought it was a plain blue circle until I looked closely at it. It is a pie chart showing the 'exists' authors and the 'rejects' authors in the color that I can't identify.

"I just want to highlight this illuminating infographic by James Powell in which, based on more than 2000 peer-reviewed publications, he counts the number of authors from November, 2012 to December, 2013 who explicitly deny global warming (that is, who propose a fundamentally different reason for temperature rise than anthropogenic CO2). The number is exactly one. In addition Powell also has helpful links to the abstracts and main text bodies of the relevant papers.

"It’s worth noting how many authors agree with the basic fact of global warming – more than nine thousand. And that’s just in a single year. Now I understand as well as anyone else that consensus does not imply truth but I find it odd how there aren’t even a handful of scientists who deny global warming presumably because the global warming mafia threatens to throttle them if they do. It’s not like we are seeing a 70-30% split, or even a 90-10% split. No, the split is more like 99.99-0.01%." A friend of mine introduced me to the beta version of a word-building, deck-building game which is a little like Dominion but more like Quiddler. I liked it enough to kick-start it and see how the final version comes out.  You should check it out at http://kck.st/11iiWZ7

I didn't sign up because I figure many of my friends will own it. ;-)

As a comment says "Happy lawsuit to you, Happy lawsuit to you, this song is public domain, happy lawsuit to you."

I suspect that the monetary damages are there to give the copyright holders an incentive to settle.

Good Morning To You, Warner/Chappell. Have a little class action comeuppance with your birthday cake?

I don't want to love this as much as I do. It is clever, but makes me sad.

This is an interesting perspective on Martin Luther King Jr. that I hadn't seen before. Of all the things that I'm unqualified to evaluate based on my personal experience, this is right at the top of the list, but I found the article persuasive.

The "I have a Dream" speech was definitely an after the avalanche has already started thing. I would have probably cited the bus boycott myself, but things from the decade or two before I was born are the historical bits I am often most sketchy about.

This all sounds pretty plausible to me.

An unfortunate, if predictable, update on the lawsuit to establish Happy Birthday in the public domain: the music company making money on the song fights to defend their copyright.

Even if the current suit gets dismissed, Warner/Chappell Music is just asking for a future class-action suit if they continue collecting license fees for their bogus copyright. Part of the reason they argue that the suit should be dismissed is that there is no evidence that they knew about all the history, and thus believed that their copyright was valid. They cannot continue to make that argument if sued over the collection of future license fees.

Today is the special election for our next Senator. In a low turnout election, each person who does vote counts all the more. Please vote.

Tomorrow is a special election day in MA. If you are registered, please take the time to go vote.  Record low turnout is predicted, meaning each vote is more likely to have impact. Regardless of your preferred candidate, please do vote.

This is Fun to watch.

Oh. My. God.  This may be one of the best things I've seen on the net in ages.  NPH does the Tony Awards opening.

h/t to +Lisa K Holsberg for pointing this out... Friggin amazing.

Tyson has a rather small part.  It's mostly the Harris show.

This is an updated motel. It was very economical, but a bit spartan. The front desk was friendly even though I arrived late at night. Many of the room's lights are motion sensitive so they came on as I walked in, even though my hands were full. The room was bit cold and I couldn't find an extra blanket. If they have wifi, I didn't find it. The breakfast was tasty and well supplied. It was a fine place to spend a night, particularly for the price.

This is easily the best Thai food in Arlington. I personally love their Bi Bim Bab, Chicken Rama Garden and Pad See You. I recommend the place if you are ever in the area.
