indyhippo wallows on

Recently I've been undertaking a project to link and unify the indyhippo brand across fora and social media, and I'm pleased to report that I'm now pretty much there. Following is the current extent of my burgeoning empire:

I have a publisher page on RPGGeek:
http://www.rpggeek.com/rpgpublisher/26277/indyhippo
I have one game (Sci-Fi Beta Kappa: www.rpggeek.com/rpg/18392/sci-fi-beta-kappa) listed there, and am in the process of adding all my other current WIPs too. Bear with me, as this will take some while. In the meantime, you can check out my games in the following places:

London Anime Con, 4-5 July 2015
Where are Hoagy* and I going to be this weekend? Why, at the London Anime Con of course! I'll be showcasing my current WIPs, about which I'll be happy to chat to folks. I'll be in the Indies section; if you can't find it I'm sure the organisers will be more than happy to steer you in that direction.
Hope to see some o' youse there :D.

*Actually, I doubt I'll be able to get Hoagy out of bed in time, but I'm sure he'll be there in spirit.

Where The Heart Is on DriveTHRURPG
I had a look through my e-mail just now to see how many peps had downloaded Where The Heart Is since it went live on 24/4/15, and the grand total so far is 40! Not bad I reckon? I don't know how many of those folks will go on to run the game, obviously, but I'm very encouraged by the level of take-up to now.

indyhippo (and catty_big) at UK Games Expo

I'll only be at UK Games Expo on the Saturday unfortunately, as finances won't permit a longer stay. However, I'll be there from 10.30 until just before 8 pm, and would love to hook up with anyone else from here who's going.

I'll have some beta copies of my new game, Where The Heart Is (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/141790/Where-the-Heart-Is), which I'm letting folks have at cost (£2); also, Leisure Games are stocking my previous game, Sci-Fi Beta Kappa (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/121320/SciFi-Beta-Kappa?term=sci-fi+beta+) (£9), and they and two or three other retailers will have stock of my playing-card word game, LeCardo (http://www.rpggeek.com/boardgame/33723/lecardo) (£7) available, and I'll have demo copies of all three of the above, plus photocopied printouts of some WIPs, namely All That Glitters (http://tinyurl.com/qc9q2vk), SkipJack (http://tinyurl.com/pjastl2) and Dead Man Talking (http://tinyurl.com/okp78gq), and I'm happy to chat to folks about various others which aren't in hard copy form, but about which I've posted in my G+ indyhippo design lab community (https://plus.google.com/communities/103082278441538170721?hl=en).

Look forward to seeing some o' y'all there :D.

[Where The Heart Is] Beta version on DriveTHRURPG
As it says on the tin. The beta version of my new game Where The Heart Is, went up on DriveTHRURPG/RPGNow on Saturday. The print option is £3, and the pdf free. Yes you heard me, absolutely FREE! Obviously it would help me out if folks bought the print version, but I'm happy to make the pdf free so you can tentatively dip your tootsies in the weirdness and see whether they shrivel up into husks or sprout other, bionic, cyber tootsies. Er... ok, forget the metahpors, just order it, yeah?

That's the last time I put Hoagy in charge. I said to him Dude, just post some comments from time to time; re-hash the occasional discussion from G+ and mention any upcoming releases. But I get back and find he hasn’t posted a single goddamn thing. What's more, there are fag ends everywhere, and a cloying fug throughout the office. Lazy sod couldn’t even be bothered to open a window.
Anyway, I'm back now, so what's afoot? Well, Sci-Fi Beta Kappa, the light-hearted game of alien slackers co-written by Dan Marriott and me, was uploaded to DriveTHRU RPG last November (print version: £9, pdf: £4), and there’s been a steady trickle of orders coming in since then. It’s a load of fun, and works either as a game in its own right, or as a palette cleanser between campaigns or story arcs.

The characters in Sci-Fi Beta Kappa are all low-level miscreants who have been sent to Terra by the Justice Departments on their homeworlds, who have negotiated a deal with the Terran High Council whereby we get access to the Galactic Federation’s minerals and technology etc., and in exchange they get to dump their riff-raff on Terra. Some of them are sent to colleges and other educational establishments in order to try to make them become better citizens… except that they have other ideas, which mainly involve getting up to all kinds of hi-jinks while trying not to get kicked out or causing Alien House to get closed down. Why not join them?

Next up is Where the Heart is, the beta version of which is due to go up on DriveTHRU in the next week or so, and which couldn’t be more different from SciFi Beta Kappa. WtHi is a roleplaying game about atypical, (for now) unusual family models, which could well turn out to be normative in the decades to come. Former and current partners living together? Three parent families? Surrogate parenthood? These things are starting to happen already, so let’s explore them.

From the foreword:
Think in the future everyone will still be living in traditional spouse-and-two-kid families? Think again. There's a sea-change in family models taking place, and we need to get with the curve. Remember, today's weird is tomorrow's normal. During the game, players will play out all the usual family dramas- PTA meetings, arguments over computer use, homework and TV watching, whose turn it is to do the dishes etc.- but with a twist: at that PTA meeting will be not just Bob and his husband Jim, but also Jim's ex-wife Diana, who still lives with Jim and Bob in the Brave New Family of the future.

So those are our existing titles, but how about other projects? Where to start? Well, there’s Great Minds, a game about scientific geniuses who can solve the mysteries of the universe but who between them can’t boil an egg. There’s Dead Man Talking, about prisoners on Death Row looking back over their life and crimes, and maybe, just maybe, achieving redemption along the way; Chaotic Evil, where you play ever so slightly crap demons sent to Earth to create havoc; Disgraceful, about fear and loathing in 1920s Hollywood, where the PCs attempt to keep their resolve and achieve their ambitions, and not give in to the many temptations on offer; All That Glitters, a game tracing the fallout from a Society’s losing its sacred texts, which form a micro-managing rulebook; and finally SkipJack, where the player group attempts to reconstruct the life and personality single Protagonist by analysing a number of key objects associated with that person.

Finally, indyhippo is currently handling the marketing of LeCardo, a playing card word game that has been out a number of years, and is experiencing something of resurgence among both gamers and non-gamers alike. LeCardo is available at independent books shops, toy shops and gifts shops across the UK. In addition, the designer, Leo Marshall (AKA catty_big), will be demoing it at various game conventions across the UK throughout the year (and abroad – I’m told he’s hoping to get to Essen Spiel again this year after a three absence).

So there’s all to play for! Share the indyhhippo lurve folks. Oh yeah.

Ok, I've fired the starting gun on the marketing drive for indyhippo, my publishing imprint, which stars Hoagy, a rather wonderful character drawn by the equally wonderful +Gennifer Bone. Thanks Genn! You also can find Hoagy on FB (just type indyhippo into the search field), where there's already a Sci-Fi Beta Kappa group. Please share widely my +buddies!! Thanking y'all.

Hoagy, do you want to say something? No, he's still stoned. Ah well, you'll meet him later. Cheers!

Hey everyone! 'Spec you've all been waiting with baited breath for what indyhippo is going to reveal. Well, y'all can let out that breath now because- Argggh! who's been eating garlic? Sodding hell. Let me get my gas mask. [Goes away...Comes back] Ho hay, whff I thfri  ih ang agh, anh ef ey-- [Takes off gas mask]. All right, I'll just have to put up with the fumes. Oh, all that garlic breath seems to have dissipated. Good.

Ok, first off let me introduce to you Hoagy, the eponymous 'indy hippo'. He's up there in the profile section. Say hello to all the nice people Hoagy. Oh dear, looks like he's off his tits again. Well, he might join us later when he comes back to Earth. Where was I? Oh yeah, my games. So, indyhippo is my new publishing imprint, which will serve as a portal for all my games (of which I currently have loads, on every burner imaginable).

[Post under construction, whil-  [Ow!] Hey, watch where you're going with that ladder dude] Ok, there's a lot of construction going on, so mind your heads folks. I'm just off to run some errands. I'll catch yez all in a wee while.........]
