Pet of the Month: Sadie

Sadie is an 8 year old English Foxhound. She has a protein-losing nephropathy (PLN) and suffers from skin allergies. Protein-losing nephropathy is a specific kind of kidney ailment that usually affects large-breed dogs, leading to the seepage of blood proteins into the urine. This disease often goes undiagnosed and can lead to advanced kidney disease. Sadie is being treated with Enalapril and Apoquel which are medications used to control her PLN and allergies, respectively. She was diagnosed early and is doing well! We know Sadie doesn’t like to take her pills but are happy that she is taking them well for her owners.

Meet one of our Pet Stylist.
My name is Dawn Weis. I am one of the pet stylists here at Edina Pet Hospital. I am crazy about dogs. I also have a special place in my heart for grooming any pets. I am so thankful that I get to help care for these wonderful animals and make grooming my career.

I have completed professional training at Pucci Pet Careers Studio in Anoka. I am also a certified veterinary technician, with an associate’s degree from Argosy University. I have worked as a dog trainer for several years as well. So, when I say I am crazy about dogs, you can see why.

I have lived in Minnesota for over twenty years now. My family consists of my husband, Ken, and our three dogs; Mac, Joey, and Toby. I also have two grown children, a son and a daughter. When I am not working, I love to make jewelry and melted crayon art.

My goals for joining the Edina Pet Hospital team are to build long lasting relationships with the clients and to take excellent care of their furry family members. It is important to me that I make the pets look great while keeping their comfort and safety in mind. I want the pets to love coming to see me, knowing that I will take great care of them. I also want the owners to feel confident that I love their pet and will do what is needed to keep them looking and feeling good.

February is National Pet Dental month. Bad Breath isn’t just unpleasant- it can be unhealthy too. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS), dental disease is the number one health issue affecting 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over the age of three. It is important to not only brush your dog’s teeth daily but also to get annual dentals done. Feel free to give us a call and we can get one scheduled for you today. Here is some information about dental cleanings and why they are important: http://avdc.org/AFD/what-is-a-professional-veterinary-dental-cleaning/
