Sam and Sara started singing together in Junior High School. Both were chosen as lead roles in the production of Babes in Arms. It was clear at the time that they possessed the gift of stage presence and an amazing vocal ability. From Junior High to High School, both Sam and Sara found the stage again as they started writing and performing songs in guitar class and acoustic club. During their senior year at Branham High School (2011), Sam and Sara would feature at the ever popular acoustic night, where they played to packed crowds in the cafeteria and newly opened performing arts center. CBS 5 picked up the story of Branhams popular acoustic club when attendance surpassed all high school sporting events. Later that year Sara took a leave of absence from school to appear on the first season of The Voice. Her vocal ability was strong enough to get her on the show and on Blake Shelton's team, but she was eliminated the first round. Upon returning to school and performing her last acoustic night with Sam, they were approached about putting the duo together officially. They were known as simply "Sam & Sara" until 2012 when they were officially named Blackford Hill.
