As someone living in China and definitely on the social libertarian side of things, this is getting pretty nerve-wracking. I've spent my entire time here teaching my students and their parents how to think for themselves and to question authoritarian demagogues. Will the Chinese people see through his scheme? Or on a more personal note - if they're willing to use "administrative detention" on high-profile, outspoken lawyers and artists, what would they be willing to do to nobodies like me?

Heard of Linktree? Nice little service. If you haven't got your own website, it may come in handy. If you do have your own website, DON'T TOUCH LINKTREE. Here's why

Kitty Cat!
Σ(:3=)~
I always manage to find moggies wherever I go... or is it that they find me? Either way, this curious kitty was keeping me company while I was trying to get some shots of the floor tiles, and low perspective views of the temple ceiling and rafters.

There are many stray cats in China, especially down here in the south (it's warmer) and people tolerate them more than dogs, and we often see them feeding the strays, too.

China gets a bad rap for their lack of animal, children's, and women's rights - but in reality the population are just as concerned with their well-being as any other country, especially among the latest generations. So just because it's not written into law doesn't mean people automatically do bad things. It's not perfect, and things can be harshly pragmatic here, but it is a lot better than many realise.

I imagine this cat is quite happy living here inside the temple walls. Plenty of rodents and bugs to catch, people to rub on, and she can roam freely. A better life than being trapped alone inside an apartment all day!
