As Muslims, we’re directed repeatedly in the Qur’an to reflect upon nature as a means to know our Creator.

Join Zaytuna College for a special new program, the first Outdoor Enrichment trip, designed to cultivate the skills and outdoor literacy that can help us experience the natural world more intimately.

From August 1-6, Zaytuna faculty member Dawood Yasin, an experienced outdoorsman and backcountry backpacker, will lead a group of twelve participants on a backpacking trek in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains. In nature’s classroom, participants will study Islamic sciences, including the fiqh of purity and prayer and Islamic spirituality, while experiencing the rhythm of an engaged spiritual day.

Additionally, the program will teach participants the skills needed to become more comfortable in the outdoors, giving them confidence for their own future explorations. Through their own experiences and by reflecting on God's “signs,” participants will be challenged to direct their senses from the creation to the majesty and wonderment of the Creator of the natural world.

From the early days of study circles, to Zaytuna Institute to the recently accredited College, Zaytuna continues to grow by the grace of Allah and with your continued support اَلحَمْدُ لِله.

This week, Zaytuna College faculty and students are moving into the "Holy Hill" location in Berkeley, CA (before Ramadan). To enable this move, additional office and classroom space was constructed to accommodate our growth.

We will be documenting this transition everyday here, on Twitter, Facebook and on Instagram @shaykhhamzayusuf and @zaytunacollege, featuring images from the past and now. We invite everyone to join in and post memories of the last 20 years using ‪#‎ZaytunaMoves‬.

As Shaykh Hamza Yusuf has stated before, the onus is on us as a community to really put forward a different face for our religion, for our community, and for our Lord, and for our Prophet, peace be upon him, because it's really unacceptable that a religion with all of this beauty should be painted with such ugly strokes.
