The Khmu people leaving next to Kamu Lodge are not Buddhists but animists, meaning they believe in spirits. Their New Year falls in August instead of April. #ethnicgroups #khmu #laos

Symbolizing good luck, Laap pork is a delicious dish served with pork soup and sticky rice that you may be lucky to be treated to by local hosts. Who fancies a taste of this dish at Kamu Lodge and our sustainable village? ‪#‎sustainablevilalge‬ ‪#‎laap‬ #piimailao http://goo.gl/3xKkWd

April is the last month that locals can pan for some pieces of gold before the rainy season arrives and overflow the Mekong River's banks. You should give it a try while you still can during your stay at tented lodge in Laos, Kamu Lodge.

Story

Nestled on the banks of the mighty Mekong and amidst the heart of the Lao forest, Kamu Lodge celebrates the beauty of the region and the opportunity to explore the culture of the local Kamu people.

here are precious few places left on Earth where a genuine low-impact eco-friendly experience is possible. Our remote location in Northern Laos give visitors a unique opportunity to experience rural life in Asia which has hardly changed in a thousand years. Access to Kamu Lodge is by boat - a scenic 2.5 hour journey on the Mekong River from the peaceful and charming town of Luang Prabang.

We share our environment with the local people who are of the Kamu ethnic minority. They share their traditional methods of farming, weaving, fishing and even panning for gold! Guests at Kamu Lodge are able to fully participate in rural life alongside the Kamu people, giving a unique insight into the lives of these extraordinary people.
