Delicious food, farro & slow egg in particular! Service was slow though helpful at the table. The lack of foyer make for a bit of a hectic entrance. When we arrived our table wasn't ready and the hostess quickly mentioned a bar down the street to grab pre-dinner drinks...too quickly, as if they have this issue often. We didn't get sat until 40 min after our reservation.

One of if not my favorite restaurant in SF. Unpretentious comfort food by local owners every dish is packed with flavor. We have tried so many upscale restaurants throughout the city and NYC and we always end up saying "it's not as good as Blue Plate". Standouts are the Fried Chicken, Key Lime Pie, and Padron Peppers. Mac and cheese here is THE BEST. Wash it down with $2 Ole's. This food has big flavor so don't come here if you like bland....there is subtlety here but overall the flavors are good and strong. Just the way I like it!

My favorite dish here is the farro with slow egg. There's something about the way all those flavors mix together that makes it taste like a warm hug. The whole menu is mostly about comfort food and it's tasty. It doesn't try to hard, it's just yummy. Reservations are recommended and they have what looks like a beautiful back patio but I've never sat there before. I've tasted the fried chicken, mac n cheese, and the meatloaf - all are really tasty although if you don't have a huge appetite, I recommend sharing the meatloaf and a side of mac n cheese. :)

The fried chicken was well-seasoned, perfectly crisp and moist. The meatloaf was a bit dry and not as flavorful as I expected, especially after tasting the fried chicken. The portions were a good size.  The atmosphere is casual yet has a nice vibe.

I take my daughter to the Blue Plate each time I visit her in San Francisco. The food is marvelous (the Farro is a favorite of mine), the atmosphere is warm and comfortable and the service is consistently perfect. (Megan was our waitress last night and she made our dining experience delightful.) I travel the world and I consider the Blue Plate to be a special find which I recommend over any other San Francisco restaurant.

I am not sure why this restaurant received such high reviews. Dined here last night and ordered: 1) grilled squid salad 2) blue plate meatloaf 3) green tomato bouillabaisse The squid was an unusual dish at an American restaurant. I tried it. It was okay. Nothing unique/special about the dish. The squid had a "fishy" taste? Not as refreshing as the grilled squid I have had at Japanese restaurants. Now...the entrees. EVERYTHING WAS SALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The meatloaf, OMG, probably had A CUP of salt in it! I am not kidding. I couldn't eat it without mixing it with the mashed potato that came with the plate. The mashed potato was pretty good tho. And the bouillabaisse (a bowl broth with seafood) was buttery, salty, and sour. The flavor was really strong I could not handle a lot. The salmon in the broth was good but that was about it since the broth soaked into the muscles :(. The bread that came with the dish was topped with butter and some cream sauce, had a very weird combo/taste to it. The meal overall was very heavy. Our dinner came out to be $60 and for that much, I was hoping to at least get some quality food!!! :( And....the service was very slow. VERY VERY SLOW. With so many restaurants to choose from in SF, I am sad that I wasted stomach room here. :(

Good: delicious food. Pappardelle and (boneless!) fried chicken were both indulgently rich and flavorful. Peach and heirloom tomato salad was tasty and well-sized for two. Ambiance looks cool. Close to my apartment :) Bad: Had to wait 15 minutes despite having a reservation. Very loud near the exposed kitchen inside.

The food was Excellent! However, the service was slow. We waited for 10 minutes before someone came to our table to offer us water. Service throughout the meal was slow as well.
