Want to do mission work in Japan? Already doing mission work in Japan and want to help with something else also?

From May 12 to June 10, 2016, Mount Akagi Institute, a supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Outpost Centers International member, is needing hands and hearts for repairs on campus and evangelism in town.

We are increasing our evangelism work and need our facilities on campus to be more acceptable. The buildings on campus are decades old and need renovations. Also, the mission team will help advance the evangelism work in town with their many extra hands.

If you want to come, but can't make those dates, then come when you can within that time and stay as long as you can. Your help will be a blessing, be it a few days or a few weeks!

Keep checking back here for more updates.

Happy Spring!

This is truly a beautiful time of the year, especially here in Japan. Cherry Blossoms (Sakura in Japanese) and many other flowering trees everywhere in full bloom!

The first part of this video shows the Cherry Blossoms in a park not too far from Mount Akagi Institute (MAI), and the second part shows the MAI campus. This was taken at the beginning of spring, so the trees here on the mountain had not started to bloom.

Thanks to Andrew and Reisa Dietrich for filming and making the video.

How would you like to spend time on an attractive campus surrounded by nature's beauty while enjoying spiritual and physical refreshment?
Well, one day at Mount Akagi Institute you'll be able to do just that.
Mount Akagi is embarking on some exciting campus renovation projects for the sole purpose of welcoming guests to Mount Akagi Institute for spiritual and physical rejuvenation and refreshment. We desire our campus to be an inviting and attractive place for guests to grow spiritually and experience the best health possible.
You can help make our goal to reach the people of Japan with the Gospel and God's message of health in 3 ways:
1. Pray for our ministry and gospel work in Japan
2. Join our mission trip which will take place on May 12-June 10, 2016
(See our event page here:
3. Donate to Mount Akagi's Building Repairs Project
(Donate through our Outpost Centers International page:…/mount-akagi-institute/)

Japan Outreach 2018!

The General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist church is holding five outreach events in the next five years. Their third event will be in Japan in 2018.

"The General Conference leadership has planned five major outreach events each year for the next five years. Register your time and talents to participate in any one of these or other outreach events" - TMI Events page

We are planning to do what we can. Please pray for us to know what God wants us to do to help prepare for this event. We just found out about this this week.

Japanese cultural fact - Valentine's Day & White Day

On Valentine's Day women and girls, not men or boys, give chocolates and cards. There are two kinds of chocolates for women to give: “Giri-choco” (obligation chocolate), and “Honmei-choco”. Giri-choco are given to men or boys in her life in a non-romantic way to express friendship, and as a social obligation or courtesy. Honmei-choco is only for her lover.

One month later, on March 15 is White Day - the day when men and boys return the gift giving to the women and girls. White chocolate, flowers, candies and other gifts are also given.

Japan is truly a gift-giving nation.

The Great Whole Grain

*Other benefits indicated by recent studies include:
Reduced risk of asthma
Healthier carotid arteries
Reduction of inflammatory disease risk
Lower risk of colorectal cancer
Healthier blood pressure levels
Less gum disease and tooth loss

*Whole Grains Council

Watch Out!
Some companies use refined or “white” wheat in bread, color the bread brown somehow, and then call it “100% wheat” to make you think that it is healthy 100% whole wheat.

You should look for the words “whole wheat” in the ingredient list with it ideally being the first ingredient on the list. Some companies add in a small amount of whole wheat so that they can say that their product is made with whole wheat. In this case, the ingredient “whole wheat” will be near the bottom of the ingredient list.

Did you know that in 2009 Mount Akagi hosted a LIGHT one month school. We had a total of 4 teachers, 4 translators, and 11 students.

The pictures: certificates presented at the end of the one month, everyone sitting in a spiritual class, demonstration in a hydrotherapy class, students in a vegan cooking class.

(Sorry for poor image quality. These pictures were taken by various people among the teachers, students, and staff.)

Happy New Year! (The biggest holiday in Japan) Part 3
This video is a 2014 New Year as experienced by a young lady from Australia who visited her previous host family in the Gunma Prefecture, the same prefecture we are located.
Please pray for God's blessing as we at Mount Akagi Institute begin the new year and begin our new level of evangelism in Japan. Evangelism in Japan is quite difficult and slow, but God knows just how to do it. Pray that we may know God's will and follow it in unity.
Please pray with us for unity in the worldwide church in God's work so that "...this gospel of the kingdom ... [will] be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then ... the end [can] come." Mat. 24:14
Let's make 2016 a year of great honor for the name of Jesus!

On December 12, 2015 we had a Christmas program at church. We had many people from the community attend. Here is a video of some candid shots after the program. Somewhere in the middle of the video you will see the different presentations from the program (teaching and music).

We may post a shortened version of the program later.

Hope you enjoy this small glimpse into our church life!
