The G52A is a high-performance multicore CPU platform with up to 12 cores based on Freescale QorIQ T4x series. Due to its high computing capabilities and fast data transfer lines, it was the perfect choice for an image processing customer project.
As the heart of a complex image analysis system the G52A controls the counting and visual inspection of highly detailed objects, which have to be inspected for damage in a fraction milliseconds. In these systems, some of the data from the individual sensors and cameras have to be communicated to several CPUs.

Which markets were attracted by #CompactPCI in the 9tees? In industrial automation different flavors of industrial PCs came into use – where CompactPCI entered as a standard that was able to offer more robustness. The industrial automation market, however, needed more than just computing power – and this is why MEN provided the first carrier board for M-Modules, the D201.

M-Modules, an #ANSI-VITA standard since 1990, made a huge portfolio of real-world I/O available in CompactPCI systems: analog and binary process I/O, measurement, motion and robotics functions, UART, Ethernet and fieldbus interfaces. The D201 in 6U form factor was able to carry as much as 4 M-Modules. Until today the modular approach of the M-Module standard allows to customize computer systems using exclusively standard embedded electronics.

CompactPCI Serial offers the same characteristics required for embedded RAID systems, which have been already provided in the CompactPCI standard. Beyond that, CompactPCI Serial comes e.g. with a SFF-8485 management bus for the communication between RAID controller and shuttle, SATA signals on the backplane allowing to use each peripheral slot as a hard disk slot, and more.
