I started coming to CrossFit Portland in early 2010 as I was looking for something more exciting and fulfilling than working out alone all the time at a big box gym. I was referred by a coworker who couldn't stop raving about the people and CrossFit in general. When I started, I had no idea how to do even the most basic of movements involved in many of the workouts but I received incredible training from the coaches and support from the other members. I doubt I would have stuck around very long if it weren't for the feeling of community I felt. In the five years I've been a member, I've seen tremendous growth and evolution take place but the core principals and values of the owners and other members has remained unchanged. CrossFit Portland makes their members' lives better, period. They obviously offer CrossFit classes but they also offer nutritional and lifestyle tips and coaching from people who have lived and breathed the stuff for decades. You won't find coaches or staff here that simply decided to become fitness trainers. These guys have dedicated their lives to helping others change theirs and it shows in everything that they do. Starting CrossFit or changing gyms can be scary but CrossFit Portland does everything they can to make the experience as painless as possible and reduce any apprehension you might have. If you are on the fence, I would strongly urge anyone to simply stop by the gym and chat with the owners, coaches and members. I'm positive that their passion for this gym will infect you and that you'll be ready to sign up that day. CrossFit Portland is a wonderful place to workout but it easily becomes the place you go to see friends who just happen to workout with you.
