INTERPRETATIONS OF MY TOP FIVE BANSKY ARTWORKS

1.Flower Thrower
Location: Jerusalem
Regarded as Bansky’s most famous work it shows a rioter throwing flowers in the place of bricks or grenades.  The rioter’s face is painted with aggression which contrasts his action of throwing flowers. Instead of spreading violence and destruction the flowers represents love and tranquility. In the war stricken Country of Jerusalem, peace is so direly needed and art is a medium that can speak words people can’t at times.

2.Consumer Jesus
Location: Canvas Piece
One of Bansky’s more symbolic pieces, in which the subject is the epitome of the Catholic faith. Bansky takes the embodiment of resurrection and self-sacrifice for the purpose of saving human kind and then places three gifts in each of Jesus’ hand representing the 3 gifts given to the newborn Jesus by the three Wiseman (gold, frankincense and myrrh) or the three parts of the Catholic trilogy (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirt). Banksy illustrates with elegant effort that religion and capitalism are now interchangeable in our modern society, but neither side is bound to benefit from the relationship. With his trademark color scheme of black and white with a dribble of color emphasizing the focal point his work, he gives more attention to gifts than Jesus. He hints even more with the gifts in his bags, a candy cane, a wrapped Christmas gift, and a small doll that vaguely resembles Mickey Mouse that religion is falling into the background of our peripherals more each day. The weight of our “Capitalist Christmas” has eroded the purity and integrity of religion and the holiday season. Jesus is portrayed to be melting like a wax candle alongside the gifts he carries, showing that the relationship of religion and capitalism is detrimental to both sides.

3.There Is Always Hope
Location: South Bank London
My personal favorite Bansky piece, it elicits so many emotional at once while still being quite open for interpretation. I interpreted as a symbol of growing up. In my culture the youth desire to grow up so quickly and lose their innocence on a whim. While there are many milestones, rights, and privileges gained with each passing birthday its not till the 21st one you are considered a full fledge adult. I believe the red heart represents the love and innocence that dwells inside of us as children, and each year we grow closer to letting it slip from our grip. The small child represents a longing to reconnect with what we once harbored inside as children. I believe that is why the child is black and white, because our innocence is varied and unique to ourselves, while growing up for the large part is accepting conformity. Though does hint with his quote on the stairs “ There Is Always Hope” that maybe one day we can catch the innocence that we once let go.

4.No Trespassing
Location: San Francisco
This street work places a Native America under a No Trespassing sign.  Reflecting on the systematic genocide of the Native American by the English colonist, Banksy has his subject posed in a stoic passive manner. The potency of the artwork’s message comes from its location, Americans tend to view anyone different as an outsider or a trespasser even when the land was taken from said “outsider”. By having the subject actual reside on the building speaks volumes, in the sense it should still be the subjects in the first place.

5.Dorothy Police Search
Location: Canvas
Banksy seems to effortlessly infuse pop culture with the political side of his art. Here he takes Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and place her in front of a uniformed office with an anxious face and tentatively body language while he searches her basket. Bansky show the grim reality of the overly proactive militarize police states that we now live in today. Oz is a magically place, yet in this artwork not even a land filled with magic is spared from the intrusive [blue] hands of the government. Looking at the officer’s face it is one plastered with indifferent, showing that the actions performed are to no avail.

The lowest point in the art market was hit during 2009. Since then, people have started investing money in street art and reviving the typical form of graffiti artwork. Banksy’s amazing pieces of art have attracted a lot of customers. The most lucrative artworks have been the Exit Through the Gift Shop, Oscar Buzz, Banksy versus Robbo, and Art in the Streets. The monetary value of street art has increased by a huge margin.

The extreme recession faced during 2008 resulted in the revision of prices in the field of contemporary art. Original artworks of Banksy were sold at popular auction houses such as Sotheby’s, Bonhams, Christie’s and many others. Hollywood contributed in a large way to increase the monetary value of street art. The first street art imagery to appear in a Hollywood film was in the show entitled ‘Barely Legal’ in 2006.

The topmost revenue earners among Banksy’s artworks include:

1. Keep It Spotless: This piece of artwork was sold at an auction organized by Sotheby in 2007. The image earned a total amount of 1,870,000 dollars.
2. The Rude Lord: This artwork featured an image of a Lord on a canvas painted with oil paint. The image was sold for a total amount of 658,025 dollars which was more than double of the estimated sale price.
3. The image of a Vandalized Phone Box was sold in Soho Square in an auction held by Sotheby’s. The image earned revenue of $ 605,000. This amount was much higher than the estimated sale price.
4. The artwork entitled ‘Queen Victoria’ earned revenue of $ 478,095 at an auction held by Sotheby’s.
5. The notable piece of artwork entitled ‘The Pie face’ was created by Banksy in 2006. The image earned total revenue of $ 382,140 at an auction.
6. Banksy created the amazing artwork of ‘Mona Lisa’ in the year 2000. The artwork earned revenue of $ 334,914 at an auction held in 2007.
7. The notable piece of artwork entitled ‘Police’ was created by Banksy in 2000. The image earned total revenue of $ 346,840 at an auction.
8. The artwork entitled ‘Warning Sign’ earned revenue of $ 361,199 at an auction held by Christie’s.
9. The image of Simple Intelligence Testing was sold in London in an auction held by Sotheby’s. The image earned revenue of $ 1,265,120. This amount was much higher than the estimated sale price.

Buy Banksy Canvas Prints

In 2010, British artist Banksy was included in the list of the 100 most influential personalities in the world by Time magazine. This was one of the highest points in the tale of the graffiti artist, painter, filmmaker, and activist who has risen to fame and prominence in a manner that can be best be described as a meteoric rise. The artist’s real identity is hidden to this day and yet his artwork is loved and revered by his fans and other aspiring artists, especially street artists. When it comes to Banksy there has been a transition in the painter’s works from painting the walls in Bristol England, to now having bombed (as they call it), the cities that range from Vienna to Barcelona and Paris.

To all Banksy fans, the artist is brilliance, genius, and mastery combined. His/her art works have been an attempt at challenging the social norms and have within themselves messages of enlightenment and revolution flowing through their cores.

Have you ever had the chance of taking a look at a Banksy artwork? If you have, I am sure you are in the long list of fans that love the Graffiti artist’s works but seem to find themselves limited as they can’t really take the art pieces home. They can’t…or can they? Our website offers you an entire section that is dedicated to the work of Banksy printed on a Canvas for all his fans to take home and enjoy. If you admire his works, you are sure to love this new facility that allows you to take your very own Banksy artworks home!

The Child Soldier
This Banksy Art Work is truly inspirational. The artwork with its dull colour patterns and slightly underdone brush strokes is a take on the sorrows that the world is facing in terms of child soldiers. This has been an increasing problems particularly in the African states. This canvas print captures all the essence of a true Banksy humanitarian classic.

The Banksy Lover
Each and every painting of the graffiti master is a take on social issues and contains a lovely sweet message. The Banksy lover is another such artwork. It is a message of how sometimes the things that are hidden in the world are right under one’s nose. This art work that has been portrayed almost effortlessly and in all its true essence on the canvas print is a criticism on the immoralities of the society, and how amazingly people can hide when they have to.

Two Banksy Artworks in One
This canvas print combines the now almost folklore type popular lone girl portrait with a balloon escaping her grasps with another of Banksy’s classic to make it an inviting prospect altogether. Both the pictures are combined with a touch of variation that is sure to pique the interest of the onlooker.

Climb on the Banksy Bandwagon and Give Your Home a Modern Touch

It sometimes seems as if the world has become transparent and everyone knows everything about everyone else, so it’s quite refreshing when an air of mystery surrounds someone.  This is the case with Banksy, the elusive and furtive street artist from the UK who has left his mark on cities around the world. Although it has been speculated that Banksy’s real name is Robin Gunningham, even this is still in question as he continues to travel extensively to leave his guerilla art where it might be least expected.

Known as a graffiti artist, Banksy has carried on the tradition of street artists to create instant murals, although he has given them a unique twist with his use of apes, children, and old people with ‘off center’ word tags.  Blue Horizon Prints has a selection of the best of Banksy’s art for sale such as “Apes Will Rise”, “Jack and Jill”, and “Banksy Maid”.  The range of Banksy prints can be found at http://www.bluehorizonprints.com.au/canvas-art/banksy-prints/
In many ways, the streets have become a sort of modern theatre, and graffiti art has been a great contributor to this movement.  Graffiti can truly be looked upon as the ‘people’s art’ and is often a spontaneous outpouring of emotions and attitudes.  Banksy’s art is perfect for street culture, and its irreverence, countercultural outlook, and stark colors fit in perfectly with modern city life.  It challenges all of us to stop and think for a moment, and appeals to the rebel hiding in all of us.

Graffiti art can be applied using conventional paints, marker pens, or aerosol paints.  Artists in this medium often have little time to apply their message before an authority figure appears to put a stop to their work.  As graffiti is considered to be vandalism in most localities, Banksy and others who use this art form must be fast.  In order to get his message out quickly, Banksy has relied upon stencils that allow him to get the painting up in a minimum of time.   This has resulted in crisp, definite pictures that stand out brilliantly.

If you’ve decided that your home needs a bit of pepping up and a bit of street art, you’ll find that Banksy canvas prints fit the bill neatly.  Banksy’s combination of sometimes ordinary images with a pungent message will add a countercultural accent to your living room or bedroom.  For instance, ‘Pat Down’ shows a housewife in a pink dress performing a body search on an enormous soldier.

Each Banksy print comes pre-stretched on a wooden frame and is ready to be placed upon the wall immediately, as would only be appropriate with Banksy’s art.  However, should you so desire, you can also order Banksy’s prints unstretched or on archival paper.
