iHub Defn - A community of people who use technology and social entrepreneurship to create contextual solutions to contextual problems.

Purpose of the iHub
1. Connectedness
(not for internet) - for people. If you have been an entrepreneur working from your bedroom, or in a cafe then you know how it feels to talk to people who understand what you are doing.
Techies also meet in community user groups to help each other out. iHub has created the social capital needed to make these groups each others best resource
While other connections through the iHub are possible such as to investors and technical assistance - the greatest connection we offer our community is to each other

2. Community
Community implies belonging - iHub has helped build up the tech community in Kenya but the iHub itself is a community of people who have helped build it up - and this does not refer to the huge social network and following on social media. Some members join iHub at a stage in their lives or business where it would not have been possible for them to be anywhere else... others join by choice, evaluate options and chose to be part of the iHub community. Each of these has a stake in what iHub is.

3. Culture - iHub does not belong to Nairobi only or to Kenya only. iHub belongs to the world and anyone who wants to implement technology for social change using a community approach. They can learn for free on how to build a community,
on how to focus on and solve contextual and local problems
on how to share this culture with others - these include sister spaces in the coast and lakeside to others elsewhere in Africa - Sudan, Zambia... anyone who calls the iHub is happy to spread this culture and way of doing things.

People are free to use the iHub space for internet... for space... to connect to investors... but the people who are the iHub understand what it means to belong to this community that has built up the greater tech community in Kenya and spread a culture all over the continent and they understand what it is to each of them individually and who they are to each other collectively
