In Communities. Go to the community page you are in. Click the gear button. Edit accordingly. You can turn off notifs and shares to your feed. Don't know how to do the other things.

Yesterday I found myself in a part of the city that I hadn't explored before. Coming back from Potrero Hill, on De Haro, I was intrigued by an open space at the very south end of the hill, before the drop down to Cesar Chavez. I love that the city still has hidden places to discover.

Isn't it wonderful when you find something previously hidden, in your own backyard? There's something magical about it, no matter how outwardly mundane that thing or place might seem.

battle hymns by David Lang at Kezar Pavillion

David Lang's little match girl passion at ODC last year was amazing. Volti, the Leah Stein Dance Company, the San Francisco Choral Society, and the Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir are performing a magnificent piece by him, battle hymns, for over 150 performers that touches on the feelings of people in the time of the American Civil War, through texts from that era, dance, and multi-layered vocal orchestration.

I saw this tonight. There are three more performances this weekend:

Saturday April 27 at 3pm and 8pm
Sunday April 28 at 3pm

All performances at Kezar Pavillion.

Pro tip #1: Wear a sweater and jacket for the evening performance.
Pro tip #2: Try and sit up and to the side so you can look down.
Pro tip #3: Ice Cream Bar in Cole Valley afterwards.

Going through the book box archives in the garage today... so many old friends! I pulled a few to reread and thought about how my reading has been slacking. In my old place I used to have bookcases lining the rooms but now I am clutter free. Out of sight, out of mind? Or displaced by the New Yorker and the steady stream of slot-machine social media?

From the bottom of a box I unearthed Webster's Third New International Dictionary. How many trips my sisters and I have made to the dictionary stand! "Look it up" was standard fare in our house and those of my relatives. Now it's a trip to the internet, where status updates and feeds await. "Just a quick check," and another few minutes gone, the modern time tax on our lives.

What to do about the dictionary? I don't have a stand. With a stand it could be dictionary-as-art. I'll have to find one. I'm not ready to get rid of it yet.

I still have books lining my walls and need more.  Nothing like browsing through them and seeing an old favorite to re-read!  Beats out social media for sure!
