I typically check in on my phone, but this new interface makes me want to look here more frequently.  It's nice.  Some sort of performance bug right now, but that will get worked out I'm sure.

+Coursera Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Computation starts today! I couldn't be more excited about a class!  If you haven't already you should sign up.  This is (debatably) the future of computers as we know them.

Quantum computation is a remarkable subject, and is based on one of the great computational discoveries that computers based on quantum mechanics are exponentially powerful. This course aims to make t...

I love that they actually built this out. Most are just pree releases or blog posts. This took a decent chunk of effort to build.

I find it interesting that when people underestimate their risk for something they pretty much just ignore it, but when they overestimate they are more than willing to reevaluate their guess.

http://io9.com/5901251/are-humans-too-optimistic-for-their-own-good
We humans are a hopeful bunch — so hopeful, in fact, that our views of the future are often irrationally positive. But at what point does unflagging optimism become detrimental to our progress and suc...

Okay so this really pisses me off more than it probably should.
3,580 users were banned from online gaming because they might use that as a means to molest children again. Although "the Georgia Review Board found, only 5% of those on their sex offender registry were “clearly dangerous” and "should be subject to tight restrictions and a lifetime of monitoring". Considering you can get on the list for urinating in public, or being a flasher I think this is a little over zealous. Now people who are going to use this service are just going to create accounts that aren't registered to the offenders list and do exactly as they have before. Why do we create ineffective laws that only appear to be helping.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2012/04/thousands-of-new-york-sex-offenders-blocked-from-online-gaming-networks.ars?src=fbk
A joint effort between the New York attorney general's office and six prominent gaming companies has barred over 3,500 registered sex offenders from using a variety of online gaming networks.

The sex offender list actually makes people more likely to commit future crimes, because they find it impossible to get a legal job, and it makes it harder to track sex offenders because they're legally required to be homeless in most places (mainly because they're not allowed to live anywhere near schools, and schools are intentionally built everywhere..).

The best way to predict the future is to make it happen.
Introduction
I'm a Computer Science major at Colorado State University.  I'm also an intern at Hewlett Packard.

I hope to either join or create a company that advances health care or education, as these are two areas I'd like to see improved.  I'm much more interested in making the world a better place than in making copious amounts of money.
