Antibiotics strong enough to kill off gut bacteria can also stop the growth of new brain cells in the hippocampus, a section of the brain associated with memory, reports a study in mice published May 19 in Cell Reports. Researchers also uncovered a clue to why-- a type of white blood cell seems to act as a communicator between the brain, the immune system, and the gut.

Once thought to be a variant of a common species, the Tanana Arctic butterfly has been classified as a new species. It's the first new butterfly specimen discovered in Alaska in 28 years—and it could be the only species endemic to Alaska. http://on.natgeo.com/1pBbCuS

+Steve Smith Without a doubt, some people actually like hearing me play music, and or enjoy my cartoonist art etc. Hiking and outdoors stuff gives me a feeling of being close to God and I love how many people tell me that being in my classes gives them this same experience.

A new study found strokes in young adults who use marijuana are more likely to be caused by intracranial arterial stenosis by a buildup of plaque. The new study, the first to investigate differences in stroke between marijuana users and non-users, an approach that can help identify possible mechanisms for stroke in users. The study also found marijuana users suffered strokes at a younger age than those who did not smoke the drug.

Hi Steve,

We have had a company that wants to install solar power on our roof and then sell us the power. I live in El Paso, TX, so lots of sunshine. I don't know how much they will charge us for power, presumably less then we are paying now.

"The mainstream view is that we, like computers, make sense of the world by performing computations on mental representations of it" but Robert Epstein in this recent essay makes the claim that this is simply the latest in a list of metaphors that have been used, and that this metaphor is holding neuroscience back from understanding intelligent behavior.
Your brain does not process information, retrieve knowledge or store memories. In short: your brain is not a computer

Relaying messages telepathically from one mind to the other may sound like something from a sci-fi movie. Guess what! New study shows telepathy is possible.

Staff is exceptional. There for a surgery twice in a month. Very understanding and kind. Food is exceptional. My favorite hotel in the world. We plan to come back for non emergency and spend a week enjoying the hotel and the easy access to Seattle.
