Hey #MusicEd teachers, are you frustrated with the lack of solid, worthwhile, music education oriented professional development opportunities inside your school district? Would you find any value for yourself or your school in having a resource for focused music oriented PD opportunities that would be available online? Possibly even something detailed enough that you could present it to your administration as a possible alternative to you having to sit through PD sessions that have little or no bearing on your particular field of instruction? I've got a few ideas for this but want to see if there is any interest in it. Please send me a direct message or feel free to reply to this message as well. I'd love to hear what you think about the idea.

A little more about the live online technology in #musiced session tomorrow morning at Heartland AEA (#haeaTIC) :

Technology is everywhere these days, so why not also incorporate it into your music classroom? Over the last ten years writing technology articles for Teaching Music Magazine I’ve had the opportunity to interview dozens of noted music educators that use technology in incredible ways in their classrooms. It’s time to move away from the old methods of musical “drill and kill” and instead start to use technology to expand a student’s musical knowledge beyond just playing the notes on the page.

Topics will include the use of videoconferencing in music education (lessons and large group instruction), using video resources in the classroom, using recording technology as a teaching/learning tool, and technologies that will help you make the most out of very limited rehearsal and lesson time. We’ll also talk about some useful gadgets and low cost apps for PC’s and tablets that can make your classes even more fun and educational.

The #musiced section of the live stream starts at 10:35am central time Thursday morning.

More info is available at https://goo.gl/SRWdq5 including the link to sign into the Zoom video conference. Spread the word and join in! If you can't come to the live stream the presentation will be archived on YouTube at some point in the near future under their Heartland AEA channel.
