Some artists create worlds for listeners to fall into. It's those artists that ultimately advance rock music as a genre. They're the ones who not only change the game, but change listeners. In a long tradition of boundary-busting and groundbreaking
“I’m a performance artist. The music I make, the costumes I design, the world I create… it is all part of a journey. In the often shallow world of pop culture, I am the deep end of the pool; deep and dark and vast. A place where it’s ok to be broken, ok to be different, ok to be damned…. Where there is a place for us all.”
Since first stepping on a stage at the age of 4, Emily Lazar, known simply as "M", has shown a voracious appetite for performing. A natural magnet for attention, M trained in various forms of dance, voice and theater while cutting her teeth performing in bands and artistic endeavors throughout New York. The experience led M to formulate the art project known as September Mourning. Since the band’s musical inception a little over a year ago, September Mourning has organically come to the attention of many in the music business; touring with Marilyn Manson, Hanzel Und Gretyl, The Birthday Massacre and others and recording with Grammy winning producer Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Cold, U2, The Smashing Pumpkins etc). In the spring of 2010, despite not having a commercial release, September Mourning was featured on the back cover of leading hard rock magazine, Outburn. The project’s multimedia aspect will be revealed throughout the remainder of this year gearing up to its full launch in the winter.
M’s larger than life personality compliments her signature look. The featured face (as well as endorser) of Draven (http://draven.com/), M’s image graces the pages of Revolver, Kerrang!!, Synthesis, Vice, Death and Taxes, Strutter Rock, YRB and many others. In addition, she is featured on Draven billboards throughout Europe. Other endorsements of note include Lip Service and Coffin Case, which uses M in 2009 and 2010’s ad Campaigns, and Samson Microphones, who feature Lazar on the packaging of their signature wireless microphone sold in Target stores nationwide. M is also seen in campaigns for Killers Never Die, Torture Couture, Jess Darwin, Rocklove Jewelry, Artus Clothing and Lorber Vintage, Sourpuss Clothing, Junker, Loaded clothing, World Famous Clothing and Steeleworkx Jewelry. As a feature model for Manic Panic, posters of M are displayed around the country in salons and stores such as Hot Topic. In addition to the above, M has three calendars and does runway modeling for Metal Couture (featured on MTV2), Junker and Nordstrom's department stores. Her visibility has led to featured guest spots on radio shows on Playboy Radio, VM Underground, Maxim's Channel on Sirius/XM, Metal Monthly, Metalmessiah Radio and numerous hard rock music stations.
