Staff here are essentially grown-up versions of high schools bullies lol. Power-tripped security guards making minimum wage. The only good thing about this venue is the fact that they still manage to attract good artists because of the prime location in the city. Other than that, I have NEVER had a friendly interaction with any staff members, and some even seem to enjoy being assholes. You feel like a criminal being watched the entire time. Don't expect to see the opener unless you show up hours in advance, and don't bring anything besides the essentials because chances are that there is some rule about not being able to bring whatever it is in. I get that they have rules to uphold and fines to pay if they don't keep these rules, but there is no reason to make the experience unpleasant for their guests because of that. Also, the ONLY good view on the 2nd and 3rd floors are right on the rail, which are always filled up as soon as the doors open. The music and sound quality are great, but the high price tag and terrible hospitality make this place unbearable. If it weren't for the location, this place would have gone out of business long ago.

Went to a show here last night and was appalled at the unprofessional and downright rude security. While walking through the line, security points at us and says "you three, please step out of line" so we do. He tells us that we are clearly hammered and won't be let into the show. At this point, I'm like WTF because I was the DD and hadn't had a single drop of alcohol all night. I try reasoning with the guy, but it's like talking to a brick wall. Long story short, one of us was not let in, one was given x's on the hands aka not allowed to drink even though he was 21 and had a legal ID with him. Overall horrible experience here and will do my best to avoid coming here at all costs.

Went to see Erykah Badu on 3/3/13. Tip one.. Eat at the restaurant to gain escorted entry bypassing the ENORMOUS line all you have to do is order a Entree, Sandwich or Special which BTW are excellent! We were a party of three and Had the Crab Cakes, and Pizza for apps and ordered two of the shrimp grits and one burger and fries the bill totaled $62.00! Well worth escorted entry! Tip two... Drinks are expensive ordered 4 margaritas and a Ginger ale $44.00 the drinks were good but I think too pricey. Tip three.... Best view is the second floor right side closest to the stage get there fast and HOLD YOUR SPOT! Everyone is trying to get a good view and to avoid conflicts go to the bathroom one at a time and make sure to mark your territory via a human body! Last but not least enjoy nice venue wear comfy shoes avoid a coat and large purse the less the better because you will need free hands a to clap, sing and hold your spot!

House of Blues is the worst concert venue in Boston. If you can get on the main floor, the show can be acceptable, but anywhere on the balcony requires you to get there super early to get a spot where you can see. Multiple times I've had balcony tickets and ended up sitting on the third floor in basically nose bleed seats. Try the Paradise or Brighton Music Hall or Bank of America Pavilion or Middle East or Sinclair or literally any music venue in the city before you go to the Boston House of Blues. Also the security can be overzealous.

Wow. I came here with five friends to see Lotus on the 26th and I am appalled by the manner in which we were treated. I understand HOB has an obligation to watch over the patrons in their establishment but their over bearing presence ruins the venue. I expect to be checked for a wrist band but having employees kick out people because they "look high". My friend may be Asian but she is but a smoker. That must be done kind of racism. I see the responsibility HOB had but if you intend to be a venue for electronic shows how can you justify banning glow? I am disappointed in the house of rules new style. I expect better from such an old venue. If you are looking to have fun I would suggest finding another venue to see your artist or as an artist, to play at.

Over all, the HOB is awesome. However, security can be super douchey. They will kick people out at the drop of a dime, so beware! However, it is usually a quick process to get inside and getting out, and being in the heart of Landsdown its's super convienent!
