On Friday, 15th September 2017, Articulate HLC invites you to join us for a very special breakfast, with a very special speaker, at a very special venue.

Richard Bacon, MP at Ickworth House Hotel in Horringer, Bury St Edmunds IP29 5QE
830am-10.30am £15pp

The magnificent Ickworth Hotel is an appropriate setting to welcome, once again, the man twice named by Spectator magazine as “Parliamentarian of the Year”.

With the country and Parliament still reeling from the aftermath of the recent General Election, we felt it was time to try to gain some clarity and some inside knowledge about what is happening and what we can expect. Richard’s unique position, wisdom and depth of experience in Whitehall (not to mention his sharp wit and ability to articulate) renders him an ideal person to deliver some much-needed answers.

Richard’s book ‘Conundrum: Why Every Government Gets Things Wrong – and What We Can Do About It’, published in 2013, was described by the Daily Telegraph as performing "a valuable public service". This seems completely appropriate in 2017!

We hope you can join us.
Bookings close on 8th September.

Please, will you lend an ear? It's important and, Yes,( its) In My Back Yard

On Thurs, 17th August, from 9.30am-11am (£15pp), you will have the pleasure of meeting and greeting aboard the brilliant river cruise boat, The Allen Gardiner, berthed at Ipswich Haven Marina, East Cut, Ipswich Wet Dock. We won’t be sailing, but you will enjoy a lovely brunch and a welcome (non-alcoholic) cocktail, The AG, created especially for us.

Equally as important, this meeting is to introduce you to a project called GrandMentoring, an innovative initiative to harness the energy, skills and experience of older volunteers (50+) to support young people in our area to find work, stay on in education or take up training.

Originally the brainchild of Lord and Lady Freud, it has been running in London since 2009. And now, Yes In Our Backyard! In central Ipswich alone, there are more than 400 young people in care. Any person aged 50+ who wants to give back to the community, give a young person a chance and can spare about an hour a week (or equivalent) would make a huge difference. You may not fit the bill yourself, but you may know someone who does. And there are benefits for businesses, as well as those you mentor, to a scheme like this, not least of which is increasing employability skills.

It isn’t just about giving money. It’s about businesses or individuals that may have skills, resources, networks or support.

It’s about changing lives. It’s about you.

Bookings close 10th August. To find out more, and/or to book in, please visit www.articulatehlc.co.uk

First a few questions:

1. Do you have a website (raise hands)?
2. Does your site contain images (raise hands again)?
3. Are the images important to your site (final raise hands)?

If you answered yes to all of the above, you might be interested to learn that you could be in a world of trouble if you or your site designer had ‘borrowed’ those images. A hefty fine could be looming for the illegal use of those images.

And, lest you think this doesn’t apply to you because
a) It is your designer’s problem (it’s not…you will be liable)
or b) that you won’t get caught
or c) because they were ‘tweaked’, there is no issue…

…you would be wrong on all counts. As with everything else in the rapidly changing world of cyber tech, there is now a tricky bit of kit that finds these images and can and likely will catch you out.

Our next breakfast meeting on Thursday, 20th July, 8am at The Auberge in Yaxley IP23 8BZ (£15pp) will feature guest speaker Sammy Teather of WowWebsiteGraphics who knows all the ins and outs and will make all clear and guide you on what to do and how to do it.

For details and to book, please visit www.articulatehlc.co.uk
Bookings close on 13th July.

Who Will Protect Us?

As a sole-trader, micro or SME you are doubtless inundated with spurious offers of service or product that can appear awfully good … but are they?

We all know the old saying …"If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, chances are …"

But scammers, rogue traders and fraudsters are becoming ever more sophisticated and they are costing businesses, as well as consumers, a lot of money. They can also impact the reputation of your business through no fault of your own.

Is there no one/no body that can protect us?

In Suffolk, Trading Standards is campaigning hard so that you have a better understanding of what is afoot in the area and how to deal with/recognise when something is not as it seems. They are also proactively addressing the problem and identifying those who threaten us and taking action to stop it.

Join us on Wed, 22nd February, at The (ever fabulous!) Auberge in Yaxley, 8am-10.30am £15pp*

when Articulate HLC welcomes Matthew Spall of Suffolk Trading Standards to our next breakfast meeting to talk about all this and to listen to any concerns you have.

We hope you can be there to participate and get a new understanding of Trading Standards and how they might be of service to you.

Bookings close on 15th February

Kindest regards,

East of England Broadband Bkfst at BT AdAstral Ctre with …

Giles Ellerton, Regional Partnership Director, East of England, BT Regions and a tour of the BT Future Labs who will talk about "Broadband in East of England & Future Plans"

8am-10.30(ish)am, Thanks to some sponsorship from BT, this Articulate HLC meeting is discounted to £10pp Bookings close 12 Jan

A few years ago, we organised a similar breakfast meeting at Ad Astral. Attendees ensured it was a rousing morning as the questions came fast and furious. The tour of the Future Labs was a particular highlight.

Well, the future has now become the present, so we thought we ought to see what BT has to say for itself in 2017 and also view the evolution of the wild and wonderful things we saw in the Lab.
