hi there, I'm new to this group. I've joined after being pointed here by several people such as Andrew Minkin and the other good people of Namba. Currently, as an open data consultant to the World Bank, we're helping the Ministry for Economy in KG to build an open data action plan (part of the more general e-governance policy).

So I'm interested in current projects you're working on that use (government) public data sources, or the type of data you would like to see published so you can use it. I might be in Bishkek for next month's Kyrgyz internet forum, and almost certainly for the hackathon the Soros Foundation is organizing with IT-Attractor in June.

I will read along here using machine translation and may occasionly ask something in English. [I live in the Netherlands].

Welcome, +Ton Zijlstra !
It would be great to have an API to public transportation's (buses, trolley-buses would suffice) realtime gps coordinates.

Good video about Edgeryders and the 'unMonastery'. Great work by some people I'm lucky to have in my network..

When afraid all is a threat. When your methods don't work use the same methods more obsessively. It is all a deeply human response and utterly predictable because of it in that sense. It also a symptom however of systems becoming brittle and crumbling.

Indeed, I think for the willing it will be an incentive, for the unwilling not much of a push.

The new PSI Directive, as good as it seems ?
Nice analysis by +Ton Zijlstra and Katleen Janssen. In my line of work we were a bit dissapointed by the "exceptions", they leave too much room in my view. At the same time it's good that with regard to the "exceptions" is formulated:  "..How costs are structured and determined, and used to motivate standard charges, needs to be pre-established and published..."
We can maybe try to use this to make the cost structure of some government agencies more transparant. At this time they sometimes they only need to publish their tariffs and some very global figures about costs.

Yup. No excuse for snoops though.
While reading about Groklaw shutting down, Lavabit and Silent Circle cancelling their secure email services, I was thinking that we should all stop thinking about email as a private correspondence tool. To be honest anyone wh...

Publishing in the sense you never knew where it would end up anyway. With forwarding, lists and whatnot.

That awareness, that it's not 'just you and me mailing' is not the same as having 'no expectation of privacy' though. But my perception of privacy (as something your community gives you) might differ from others.

Making sense of complexity and change.
Introduction
I consider myself to be a networked individual, working in a networked world. I spend my time with different groups in different settings, but on topics that feel very much connected, at least to me. They feel connected because whatever it is I am doing, I am always passionate about increasing people's ability to act (my working definition of knowledge), and increasing their ability to change (my working definition of learning).

We had a very pleasant 3 day stay. Hotel is located in a quiet area (small park) right at the river, and we enjoyed walking along the river to the old city centre (45 mins). The hotel bar looked promising and welcoming, until we realized it is the designated smoking area of the hotel. We did enjoy the restaurant though. Our room (junior suite) was spacious with good facilities. Staff were friendly, welcoming and service oriented.
