In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus gave His Church only one mission – make disciples. In John’s Gospel, Jesus gave us our primary method – to love one another so that the world will know we are disciples of Jesus. Unfortunately, in a growing number of churches today, people are being told what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear.

When Jesus chose disciples, He wasn't looking for models; He was looking for real people. He chose people who could be changed by His love, and then He sent them out to communicate that His acceptance was available to anyone - even to those whose lives are marked by failure. This is the heart and soul of Jesus' discipleship.

Jesus Asked A Question: What Are You Looking For?
It's an important question and not only the first recorded words of Jesus in the Gospel of John, but the first question a disciple-maker should ask of those he or she is considering discipling. What are you looking for? What’s in your heart? What is your motivation for wanting to be a disciple? In other words, Jesus’ question cuts right to the heart of the matter. The answer to this question reveals the heart’s intent.
