Our Old Friend the News
by The Pro-Questers
Sung to the tune of My Old Friend the Blues by the Proclaimers

Just when every day of the Quest was gone
We should have known that you would come along
We don’t believe we ever doubted you
Our old friend the news.

A final lengthy trip, a quest complete
A trip to you was where we’d meet
We both knew we could always count on you
Our old friend the news.

Pop culture fads will let you down
You're the only sure thing that we've found
No matter that we don’t see Sundays views
Our old friend the news.

Just let us hide sweet Rutherford in you.
Our old friend the news. Just when every ray of hope was gone
I should have known that you would come along
I can't believe I ever doubted you
My old friend the news

Onze Jour

Here we are near a small café and people speaking a language unknown to me.  I am familiar with English and German; these words sound softer and smoother but nonetheless incomprehensible.

My human was pretty excited.  We were right by her friend’s house.  Her friend with a cat with the name of a city in South America.  What is it again…Rio? Caracas? Santiago? Lima?  Lima, yeah that’s it.  Whatever the name, it is strange.

Nice place.  A kid’s school and great park across the street; another bigger building with the same smell as Dies IX just up a bit.  I’m pretty sure there is a nice park for walking my kind down in a ravine close by.

This was penultimately poultrifying.

Dies IX
Hares, jackrabbits and hares everywhere and none that I can chase. Beside a green square sat the next place my human placed me for a picture.  And that square was full of the critters I long to chase.  Alas it was not to be.  There was the usual smell from buildings that hold lots of people, mostly young people, and there was lots of greenery that had a nice scent.  It was nice and cool sitting on the stairs while my picture was taken but mostly the talk was a little too scholarly for me.
I could get used to this place though.  Lots and lots of trees, plenty of spots for a wee pee, and lots of people jogging and reading and willing to talk to small pooches.
Then I got a treat.  Not as good as a hare but cheese is still yummy.

Day Seven
Glorious!  Just glorious!  The fresh scent of running water, the smell of animals that live in the woods and plenty of room to roam!  What a beautiful bridge my human and her friend said.  And it was cool.  Lots of other dogs walking their humans but almost no human houses on the way there.  I bet the dogs there have lots of places to play.
I find lately my human talks about other places in the city she never noticed before. Signs too just like the one in the photo. I hope she takes me to those places. That's probably why she's doing this.

Whoa!  Even with my four legs this was a long way to go for me and my human.  I should have brought my new sister ~ a duck tolling retriever ~ since the place was a watering hole for ducks.

The smells?  Well, besides the ducks, there was bulrushes, lots of other dogs being walked by their humans, a bunch of small people on bikes and scooters, and big rocks that lined the whole pond making it hard for a short legged me to get wet!

Day Four
As a traveldogue, I was a little disappointed today.  The park my human and her friend and i visited was a really nice park; kids playing, a nice smell came from the wood chip ground and it was a pretty easy place to find for my human because she knew about the connection to a football legend.  But it was a no dogs allowed kinda place!
My human's friend sussed out the area to locate the exact spot in the park so I would not have to be there long.  Then my human carried me the whole way!  I couldn't even touch the ground, only the big rock she put me on to take the picture.
I could see that kids sure liked the place.  One little girl walked on a log (though the log was suspiciously odor free so it might've been made of plastic) and another little boy was playing in his tae kwon do outfit.  Or maybe it was karate; I'm a dog, what do I know?  He had a yellow belt which was pretty exciting though.

Traveldogue’s Travelogue Blog – YEGQuest Ho!
Let me introduce myself.  Finegan’s the name though if you smell nice, I have been known to answer to Fin.  I’m a West Highland Terrie and a traveldogue, and the YEGQuest contest was made for me!
The first (August 6th) pic was not familiar to me.  Smelled like paper and ink, hardly fare for a traveldogue.  I need scents, of the common kind, though strange will do too.
But good fortune was on my side.  This is why I think the contest was made for me. My human, Sue, had the previous day taken me on my daily walk.  And where was that walk!?  Well put a hat on my head and call me Bonnie, where “Beverly meets  Ada”!!  “In a spot of sweet concord”!  Yes indeed, twas in that very spot, only one day before, I left my calling card.
Once there of course, I remembered.  The friendly scent of that beagle who had recently passed by.  The lovely bouquet of the just-mowed grass by the steel barrier. The funny smelling pipe laid beside the road.  The temporary “No Exit” sign with no aroma at all.  The trees and valley just beyond. My human and her friend spent much time on angles and shots and all things proper pictures take.  I think they did really well.  Here I am with my human.

Day Final aka Day Dozen

This was a lovely smelly place.  Geese and ducks and their droppings were everywhere.  I stayed away from the geese though; they can bite hard and I am wee!  Fish off somewhere, I know that.  In fact, in some places there were lots of dogs but in others there were lots of folks fishing but no kin of mine.

There was a bit of bait and switch happening though.  My human drove to one spot, hauled me out only to put me back in the car.  Drove to another spot, same deal.  Finally we came to another place and that was it.  I guess my human and her friend didn’t walk from spot to spot because the park is a big place!  Oh, and my human’s friend was wearing heals!  I don’t understand humans sometimes…paws are so much more versatile.

Oddly, we did not find Henday.  I had thought at the twelfth spot she would be waiting for us Questers.  Alas, she was not to be found and my smeller was working fine.  This made me sad; I wanted to meet the fowl critter I had come to consider a feathered friend.

One final thing on this final place.  My humans were yet again overjoyed and high fiving over the fact that they were GPS free for all twelve places.

Okay, one more final thing.  I think my human and her friend have something up their questable sleeves.  They aren’t quite ready to give up this questing business.  Which suits me just fine.  I like to explore.

And they sure did too.

The Tenth Day

Guinivere and the grail come hither!  Today’s quest led my human and I (with her friend) to a great park.  There was quackers and honkers and water, oh my!  I wanted to jump in the water but there were more places to go.  And not only that, I had to defend my human!  A very solid looking, notably smell-free, hoofed mammal with rather large antlers was at the entrance to the park.  Well, he was not completely smell-free; plenty of canines before me seemed to have left their mark but there was really no essence eau deer.

I growled and stood my ground.  The stag didn’t stir.  I won the day and saved my keepers.

Day 명. (숫자) 팔, 여덟
Those unusual looking shapes in the title?  Well that's Korean for eight, in case you don't know.  This trip there was the smell of European pastries, Korean, Bengali and Chinese restaurants but no running water like day seven.  My human and her friend even got to shop for some veggies.  Besides cabbage and cauliflower, I smelled bok choy, bitter melon and bamboo shoots.  Exciting for the humans but little to appeal to me.

Day Six
Ahhh...today's trip led to exotic Asian delights and aromas along with the smells I usually find on a busy downtown street.  My human also saw two lions across the parking lot but I heard no roar and could smell no feline scat.

This was a familiar sight for me.  My human shops here from time to time and I get to come.  Not inside because there's food but I stay in the car with my other human.  I know my human likes to shop here but I am eager for a real walk.  A long walk.  One that takes me to a park and Edmonton's river valley.
Fortunately for me, that happened on day seven.

Day Dà (that’s “two” in Scottish Gaelic for thems that don’t know)
It’s me, Finegan, here again.  Another pic, another bit of travel.
Unlike the first picture, August 7th’s was truly unknown to me and to my human.  Which of course seems to be the whole point for this contest – to check out places you’ve never seen, been or smelled!  So I can say with truth behind me and afore, I had never see that spot before.  Clear across the city I went with my human and her friend.  But found it we did!
It was a bit of Scottish luck I figure.  (The Irish didn’t get it all you know.)  My human’s friend’s husband happened to have been part of the team of folk who designed the school beside the sculpture; I think it might be Edmonton’s newest.  You can’t see the school in the picture but it’s there all right and he knew it.
The smells were different from yesterday’s.  The river valley was a bit of a distance away this time, across a big double road, but I can say the smell of water was definitely in the air though it was all mixed up with chlorine.  I think my human would’ve figured it out eventually.  She’s smart like that.  Plus she loves her GPS!
