I had posted a review last night that mysteriously disappeared. So the rating dropped a star. My wife and I were in town for the Planetcon Comicon convention for the weekend and decided to go here because of the 15% discount on food listed in the convention program. Wasn't expecting a free concert, but didn't complain. The service was wonderful, our waitress kept our drinks filled and kept checking on us. The problems started when the concert was over and it was time to pay the bill. I asked about the convention discount and she said quote "we don't give discounts to convention goers ". I then told I want the change back. In seconds she turns and spouts off about me leaving a two dollar tip because she has to make a living and she will have ask me never to come back. She walked away as I was trying to explain that I would give her more when she came back. Well, my wife came back from the restroom first. She didn't show, so we left. We probably won't be back. In two years, the has been our only negative experience . The only reason why we went was because of the discount for the convention. Otherwise we would've went somewhere else. Where ever I posted Saturday night allowed me to post a picture for proof of thd discount from the program. Oh well.

David, we're really disappointed to see your review. It's not possible for businesses to delete reviews on Google, so we're not sure how that happened to your original. Regardless, we always go out of our way to make sure our guests are welcome and comfortable, so we're sorry if that wasn't the case at the end of your meal. The situation you've described doesn't sound like something we do it -- it's completely unacceptable, and we apologize. We hope you'll still give us another shot. I ate at the Dubliner a few months ago, and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the Shepherd's Pie. So, I suggested it as a place to meet with some friends, two of whom were coming in from out of town. I didn't even look at the menu and reordered the Shepherd's Pie, as did a friend of mine based in part on my recommendation. The flavor was very different this time. We thought maybe it had curry in it, but couldn't tell for sure. It didn't have the rich, wine flavor I had enjoyed the time before. And, it was a little greasy toward the bottom. Don't know if I caught them on a bad day, but I'd be reluctant to order that again. One of the ladies in our party (a Brit by birth) ordered corned beef and cabbage. She let the waitress know she wasn't very happy with the dish. It looked odd -- I had to ask her what it was! Sorry, but you've got to nail those two dishes. And the rest too :D

We're sorry to hear about the Shepherd's Pie the second time around, John. We want want it to be exactly like the first time you tried it every time -- we're sorry if that wasn't the case for you. We take pride in our consistency, and it's upsetting to hear this. We think you're right in catching us on an off night. I made reservations online for my parents as a surprise for their 36th anniversary. My dad has very strong Irish roots from my grandfather who recently passed before he had a chance to make it to the Dubliner (it was high on his list as he loved to try out new restaurants). The day of their Reservation I called to see if we could push the time back by 30 minutes due to a meeting my father had for work, I called at 11am that day. The lady that answered the phone informed me the she didn't have a reservation for them at all! I had a confirmation # and email from them confirming the reservation, I explained the situation, that it was their anniversary and asked to speak to a manager to see if there was any way they could help. She said she was a manager and there was nothing she could do but the owner would be there later in the afternoon and took my name and number and said she would explain the situation and have him give me a call. By 4pm I hadn't heard from anyone so I called back I was put on hold for about 15 minutes with people continuing to pick up the phone and put me on hold. I finally gave up and decided to start calling other restaurants in a frenzie just to find somewhere for them to dine before the concert they were attending at the Sprint Center so their anniversary dinner wasn't completely ruined. Gordon Biersch was more than accomadating and went above and beyond to make their dinner special. I can't tell you how disappointed in the way this was handled and the lack of compsasion from the "manager" I originally spoke to and completely no response from the Owner. I always try to support local businesses and was excited to do so but this is one that won't get support from my friends, family or myself. I'm actually in a profession that relies on referrals and a good reputation and pride myself on taking care of each and every one of my customers with compassion and understanding. Too bad not all businesses are ran this way!

We can assure you -- customer service is absolutely a top priority here, so we're surprised and upset this happened to you and your family. We do our best to make accommodations to parties with reservations -- sometimes accidents happen. That said, it seems like we dropped the ball on this one. For that, we apologize. That is not how we do things here, we promise you. We'd really like to figure out what was going on that night. Do you mind sending us a private message telling us what day your reservation was for? Came in with family tonight and we had a little one with us. The hostess was less the accommodating putting us at a high top table with a high chair that was not going to work. Immediately staff and manager recognized the issue and moved us to area with regular tables and our own space. This meant a lot to us as we have traveled from different parts of the country to spend a weekend together. The food was amazing and the whiskey recommendation was on point. I look forward to the next time I'm in Kansas city and can visit this place.

This is not Gina, this is her son. Dont get me wrong, I had no issue with the restaurant itself; good customer service, great food, etc. It was when we left the business that me and my friend were confronted by this guy who demanded to see my ID. Not only was he very rude to me but he only asked for MY ID, not my friends. Of course at the time we were both over 21, I turned 21 in 2004. This happened in August of 2009. Pretty pointless talking about this now, but your supposed to check someones ID before they go into a bar business, not when they come out.

Sheppard's pie was delicious! My lovely girlfriend had the bangers and mashed and absolutely loved them. Environment is totally cool. Music is even better. Was playing metallica and Iron Maiden! Will definitely be back next time I'm in the city!!
