Facebook? Oculus? What?

Dev kits don't cost $2B.

I understand the VC motivation. FB on the other hand is making a very big bet on something very early. Being the first to the PIM market didn't help Apple (Newton).

One of the most amazing things about working at Google is the pervasive video conferencing capabilities we have that make it super-easy for me to stay embedded with teams around the globe.  Now, we've packaged this into an easy-to-setup solution that the rest of the world can use at a really cheap price compared to the entrenched and stale video conferencing incumbents.  Very excited about the impact this package will have on businesses around the world.

We all know the best meetings are the ones we have face-to-face—but these days, our co-workers are often across the country, and we're trying to dial into calls from a cab or from home. Starting today, any company can upgrade their meeting rooms with Chromebox for meetings, which brings together Google+ Hangouts and Google Apps in an easy-to-manage Chromebox, making it easier for employees to meet eye to eye in high-definition video meetings. Sounds really cool.  I agree that it makes such a difference to see faces instead of voices.  Facetime has become the popular form of communicating in my household.

First full day with the Moto X. Used it for voice calls, directions, browsing, and email. 18 hours later, I still have 54% of my battery left. Very impressive, Motorola. #MotoX

What phone did you have prior? I've been waiting to get a wood backed one and in the interim moved to a Nexus5, which I love. So wondering if its worth moving off the N5 to a MotoX.

I've already donated to the EFF myself.  If you want your children to live in a real democracy, you need to help the world do something to stop these NSA programs -- protest, write to Congress, donate, or whatever else you can do.  With these kinds of programs in place, it's only a matter of time before a truly bad actor takes advantage of these capabilities in terrible ways.

If you've followed my posts about the NSA, and you care about the implications of ubiquitous surveillance on our society (or even just the internet industry), you know that something has to be done.

It's a very difficult fight, since there are people whose political and financial careers are based on the idea that this surveillance is not only necessary, but that the people who expose it are traitors or spies.

This is of one of my many steps in what will surely be a long process, but a lot of civil liberties folks are holding a rally in DC on October 26th.

I can't be there, but now is a good time to donate to the EFF or the ACLU, both of which are organizations which have taken great steps to fight this stuff.

So true.

Hold It Right There!

With #sopa  rearing its ugly head yet again, and hot on the heels of +Dianne Feinstein doing an about face on her stance on #nsaspying , we thought this comic (from The Star Tribune) was particularly timely.

Just a quick laugh for your #stpatricksday   #monday  - we here at www.solarvps.com hope it's a great one!

John Carmack, one of the co-founders of id software and technical genius behind Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake, reflects on the 20th anniversary of Doom. Well worth a read.

Not quite Gigabit, but not too shabby from my cable modem provider.

Sadly, a very accurate portrayal of America's options in Syria.  After reading this and thinking through the game theory, it seems the US has no choice but to attack.  Otherwise, the next chemical weapons atrocity in Syria or elsewhere will be just that much bigger, and we'll face greater proliferation of chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons.
