BOOK NEWS UPDATE

1. I've enabled POD Market Access for "Otter Twin Magic" through the company printing the book. I'm not really sure what that means, but maybe it will mean the book will start showing up on online retailers and other places.

In the end, I don't have control of what those places will charge for the book (this is some deep, mysterious thing between the distributor and the retailers), but on my side I did set the price with the printer as low as they would let me. This means I can expect 6 cents for each book the printer distributes on my behalf.

2. I've also decided to advertise the book through the printer's marketing program for a one-time fee. I will be watching to see if I can detect any results from that.

3. I have an idea and a preliminary script already for a follow-up book to "Otter Twin Magic." I've written the text only so far, but I do intend to eventually do a sequel.

4. I have also had some huge big ideas for my next novels. I'm currently working on a sequel to "Hawkwind's Tale" as well as a collection of short stories with the characters. I also have a vague and distant idea for a graphic novel in the same world, but that's very tentative and distant on my list right now.

5. I also may be producing a hardcover version of "Hawkwind's Tale" soon, within the next couple months.

Here it is! My Kickstarter for my children's book has launched and is live now. If you want a copy of the book, head over to this link. If you've never used Kickstarter before, don't worry, you can even sign in via Facebook. The Kickstarter will end October 27th at midnight, and must reach its funding goal by then if it is to be!

I can only do this with the support of backers. The public chooses if this book will be. Sharing this announcement with others would be a big help. And thank you to all the friends and family who have encouraged me in making this book, and all the teachers who have given me the skills in writing and drawing to make it possible.

It's time for an announcement!

For the past several months I've been working on a children's book starring my twin nephews, Lukas and Jaxon (incarnated as river otters) and this coming Tuesday (9/29/15) I'll be Kickstarting the project.

I will provide a link to the project when it goes live on Tuesday, at 9 AM Pacific time. Watch for it!

One of my latest sketches, just done for fun, but characteristic of my irresistible compulsion to put wings on everything.

Over a decade ago I ran across four old fantasy books on a Free to Take shelf and picked them up. With some investigation, I learned they are out of print, were printed in the early 80's, and were part of a triple trilogy. I had picked up #1 of the first trilogy, and the whole second trilogy. Within a year or so, with some searching and expense I acquired 2 and 3 of the first trilogy, but the third trilogy were out of my rational price range at the time. More than ten years passed and just for curiosity I looked them up again, on ebay, and got the whole third trilogy a few months ago, for less than one of the books would have cost me a decade ago.

Now I have re-read trilogies one and two and started on the recently acquired third. I only have the final book left to read now, and the mix of long-awaited delight at reading them and sadness that the journey will soon be over, after a decade of waiting to read what happens (when for a long time I thought the cost would never allow me to), is a most delicious cocktail of sensations that I suppose I may never have again.

The books themselves are no bestsellers (if they were they probably wouldn't have gone out of print) but they are so far from the current well-beaten path of teenage vampire romances and all the other tripe that becomes "popular" these days, and so quirky and twisted and irreverent and full of weird and fantastic creatures and people and written no-holds-barred, that they are most crunchy and chewy in their own way, leaving the reader bouncing between giggles and nausea and wonder and puzzlement. I will be sad to see the story end. It would be a wonderful series to make into an anime. It's books like these that make me want to write more and better.

Truly, the 80's had some good stuff going on. What happened? Or do I merely think that because that decade was my childhood, and so I look back on that time and its creations so fondly?

I picked up this series by chance and could just have easily missed it. It makes me wonder what other things I have missed that I would have loved.

If anyone's curious, I'm talking about "The True Game" series by Sheri S. Tepper. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_True_Game
But I'd only recommend the books to those who really like strange and bizarre fantasy/science fiction.

I've never used Kickstarter before, but I just backed my first kickstarter project--a video game that looks to be really neat. Someday I might put some projects of my own creation on Kickstarter.

FREE kindle books!

Hey everyone! I just published my fifth book. I did all the writing, artwork, and design myself.

It's called "Hawkwind's Tale." It's a fantasy adventure, and right now it's available for kindle on Amazon. Here's the link.

But wait, there's more! It will be available for FREE from January 30 through February 3. Please get your free version, and if you decide you love it, consider the paperback version (which I cannot make free) when I release it sometime later this year. If you do read it, I'd be so happy if you'd leave an honest review on Amazon or GoodReads.

Incidentally, my other four fantasy-adventure books will also be FREE for kindle during the same time. The first of them is called "Dragons to Loose." Look it up if you like. Thanks!
