There are many great RSS services out there, including and a number of new entrants you might have heard about, including services from Digg, AOL and Newsblur. But after July 1, Google Reader is not going to be one of them. If you're a longtime Reader user, like me, don't forget to export your Reader data from Google Takeout, so wherever you choose to land will be smooth.
Go to https://www.google.com/takeout/?pli=1#custom:reader to get your data. You should be able to start right back up and read all your feeds in a new place.
If you want even more data than Google Takeout provides, and you're geeky enough to use Python, check out the great summary from Xoogler : http://blog.persistent.info/2013/06/getting-all-your-data-out-of-google.html
See you on the other side!

Yes, it's WorldofHiglet,Since Google is now all about 'real' names, I decided to proactively change my name before I was suspended. Even though most people refer to me as Higlet. Ah well...
Originally from England but now resident in Canada, I'm reconnecting with my inner geek. Who knew that such a useless body of knowledge could one day spawn something so useful?
I recently launched a new online web production company, HigletFilms.com, which is releasing original shortform comedy and drama every Monday. I completed my first novel in 2009 and have been writing non-fiction book proposals this year.
Reading, writing and geek pursuits such as the Interweb, sci-fi and blogging take up much of my time. Topics? These vary from TV (Joss Whedon and Battlestar Galactica are perennials) to films and from writing to web series such as The Guild.
So what's with the picture of a toy? Well, obviously a person in my position can't go around putting their face all over the Internet willy-nilly. Plus, I'm a bit shy.
If you want to know more about the geekness of me, try my blog...
