Monsignor R. H. Benson's "Lord of the World" is a strange book. Probably quite uniquely the world's first ever Catholic dystopian novel, it has had something of a comeback because it has been recommended as essential reading by the last two Popes! You can download it for free here, along with several of his other books: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/4052

And remember, I am giving a talk about him on Friday night. Tickets here: https://www.weasydney.com.au/course/RHBMLMM

Rei Kawakubo has been my favourite designer since I was a teenager, and she really was a particular icon of the 80s. I wish I could go and see this exhibition.

My pal, the incredibly talented Vanessa Berry, is taking her performance piece 'Weird Sydney' up to the beautiful paragon Cafe in Katoomba. I have booked my seats, and you should come along too. They have the best marshmallows! And this show is an absolute hoot.

Have been reading this book as part of my research for my talk on R. H. Benson this Friday at +Wea Sydney. It's such a fun read, and it brings in all kinds of extended quotes and elements which make you realise just how important and influential the Benson family was. For example, I just learned last night that it was a throwaway story from Archbishop E. W. Benson that caused Henry James to write "The Turn of the Screw."

And by the way, there are still plenty of seats available for this Friday evening's talk - PLEASE think about coming, as the WEA needs your support, and it is the only way they will continue to support odd projects like this. You can book online at: https://www.weasydney.com.au/course/RHBMLMM
