Fremont College of Multimedia Design Valedictorian, Johanna Poveda, gave a moving speech during Saturday’s graduation and commencement ceremony. Johanna talked about walking in the rain one day on the way to class at Fremont. During her walk, she looked down at her soaking wet feet and questioned where she was going in life and whether it was all worth it. She recalled the struggles she encountered and how it wasn’t always easy to continue pursuing her education and goals. Johanna said it was her twenty-year-old daughter who looked up to her as a role model that motivated her to keep going. She wanted to be a good example to her daughter and give her a reason to fight for her education. She stated at the end of her speech, “We all have struggles and we all have obstacles that make it harder to reach our goals, but they also make it that much better to achieve them. Every struggle led us to this accomplishment.” Congratulations to Johanna for persevering and reaching her goal of earning a college degree!

Fremont College of Business Valedictorian, Alexis Chavez, talked about the hard work and sacrifice she endured while pursuing her education during her speech at Fremont's 2014 graduation and commencement ceremony. Alexis said that working 45 hours per week and finding time to study was challenging, but her goal of obtaining her dream job and increasing her earning capacity are what motivated her to earn an associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, and go on to also earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Leadership. Alexis is a proud Navy veteran who believes that her time in the Navy provided her with a strong foundation to overcome any adversity and is grateful that the Post 9/11 GI bill helped pay for the majority of her education. Congratulations to Alexis for her achievement!

Fremont College of Sports and Rehabilitation Therapy Valedictorian, Carla Longfellow, offered an insightful look back at her Fremont experience during her speech at Saturday’s graduation and commencement ceremony. She talked about one of her most memorable moments at Fremont that involved the following statement her instructor had written on the board before class one day and asked the students to reflect upon: “The way you do one thing is the way you do everything”. Carla talked about the impact that statement had on her and how it motivated her to continue with her education. She emphasized how doing things you know deep inside are right builds character and integrity. During her speech, Carla also thanked the instructors who instilled a passion for learning. Congratulations to Carla and the entire graduating class of 2014!
