He's very blasé about the whole thing, which helps. He used to swim in a pond when lived in Arkansas, until we found out there was a 5' alligator living in it. So he's pretty used to the water.

I've actually seen most of these (does that mean I have good taste?) The big list includes a couple of my very favorites, "Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai" and "Cold Comfort Farm."

Fascinating.
These photographs from the Wellcome Image Awards 2012, made possible by microscopy, record a beauty usually hidden to the human eye – and the overall winner will be announced this week. The Wellcome I...

“Some people turn sad awfully young. No special reason, it seems, but they seem almost to be born that way. They bruise easier, tire faster, cry quicker, remember longer and, as I say, get sadder younger than anyone else in the world. I know, for I’m one of them.”  RIP Mr. Bradbury.

"So I write books as an old man, but in this country you have to be categorized, and I guess a little boy swimming in the nude in a bowl of milk (as in 'In the Night Kitchen') can't be called an adult book. So I write books that seem more suitable for children, and that's OK with me. They are a better audience and tougher critics. Kids tell you what they think, not what they think they should think."

RIP Mr. Sendak.

"D.C. has all the worst aspects of summer with none of the season's redeeming joys, like beaches or an absence of biting insects. " Totally.

This fascinated me, because one of my very earliest memories is watching my grandmother and great-grandmother pit cherries with a hairpin on the back porch of grandma's house in the summer.
Have to pit a bunch of cherries, but dont own a cherry pitter? CHOW.coms Roxanne Webber shows you how to use a common household item to do the trick. For

We're cutting access to birth control and women's health, but this is important enough to need Federal stimulus money.
Chief Investigative Reporter Tony Kovaleski and the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit show you how much federal stimulus money UCSF received for studies into sexual history and erectile dysfunction.

Tried everything once, and still curious.
We've had a problem with the thermostat on the second floor since we moved in, and Alex was the first to figure out what was wrong and fix it. Sanford is a great company, and I'm so glad we found them!
