Earlier this week I was thinking something like this needed to happen because I wanted to know what events/festivals might be happening nearby. Low and behold some of my favorite webcomic guys were on the same brainwave. Unfortunately this site is too new to be of much use to me in my geographic area yet, but I'm hoping it will catch on with folks, so I am sharing it here. Pass it on!
This bit is important, because many people do not recognize this to be the case:
'“Decades of cognitive bias research demonstrates that both unconscious and conscious biases lead to discriminatory actions even when an individual does not want to discriminate,” write Michelle Alexander in her book The New Jim Crow. “The fact that you may honestly believe that you are not biased against African Americans, and that you may have black friends and relatives, does not mean that you are free from unconscious bias. Implicit bias tests may still show that you hold negative attitudes and stereotypes about blacks even though you do not believe you do and do not want to.”'
From Weld County Food Bank: We could use your help with non-perishable food donations! We are running low on our top ten food items and would appreciate you helping us spread the word. Food donations can be brought to our location at 1108 H Street in Greeley. We are open for donations from 8am - 5pm. Thank you to everyone for their support!!
We will need volunteers to help us sort and safety check that food and build emergency food boxes. We are organizing those efforts at this time and will let you know when you can help. Thank you, we have such a generous community!
In which I discuss how the YA genre is NOT dominated by female writers, how there are NOT so many more female than male protagonists in YA, and how if boys are unwilling to read any books about girls, then we have a problem.
