The twelve days of a gluten free Christmas

Today we have summarised the products we felt were the best. Please feel free to share this on your time lines and with all your friends. Hopefully caterers will watch the videos and read the blogs and then we can really get some tasty gluten free trimmings on our plates this year when we eat out!

On the twelfth day of a gluten free Christmas...other Christmas Fayre

Sadly we have reached the last day of our 12 days of a gluten free Christmas. This day is more for the rest of the food that didn't fit into a specific category!

As always, please share to help caterers select which foods are the best, in our opinion, to serve with your Christmas meals. This will allow them to give us all the trimmings like everyone else gets!

On the eleventh day of a gluten free Christmas..Christmas puddings

I love Christmas pudding and do get very jealous when out to eat and see people tucking in to them after a Christmas meal. All the gluten free Christmas puddings we tested are easily sourced and come in individual portions - so perfect for food service.

On the tenth day of a gluten free Christmas ...crackers for the cheese board

For the tenth day of Christmas we taste tested crackers to be served as part of the cheese course. It is very rare to be served gluten free crackers with cheese at the end of a meal - in fact I think it's only happened to me once! It would make me feel very special to be given crackers to complement cheese as usually this is a course I skip.

On the ninth day of a gluten free Christmas...yummy desserts

We're now on day nine of our 12 days of a gluten free Christmas. For this we taste tested desserts. Sadly, desserts for a coeliac when eating out is an afterthought. I have often been just served fruit, when other diners are tucking into scrummy treats - in fact I was honestly given a whole orange once at a Christmas do - not even cut up - just an orange on a plate! I even had to ask for a knife to cut it.

Thankfully, we have moved away from situations such as that, but time and time again, I am offered fruit to start and a dessert of fruit. I do like my food - and especially puddings, so it would be really nice for there to be a selection of different desserts that I could eat.

On the eighth day of Christmas...gluten free pigs in blankets

I love pigs in blankets - not sure why we only have them at Christmas to be honest! - and yet whenever I have eaten a Christmas meal out, I have never been offered them. Gluten free pigs in blankets are available from a couple of the large supermarkets and, although I know they can easily be made with gluten free chipolatas and smoked bacon, it would be very easy to buy some and stick them in the freezer for when that coeliac diner comes in.

Day seven of our 12 days of a gluten free Christmas led us to taste brown bread to complement starters or for sandwiches.

Normally, when I have a starter out and the 'normal' option has brown bread with it, I am either served toast or nothing at all. This is a real shame, because there are so many fresh loaves of brown bread available that can be stored in the freezer to minimise waste. Slices at a time would defrost so quickly there is no need to toast the bread.

Click here to read and to watch the video about which loaves we tried and what we thought -

Day six of a gluten free Christmas...stuffing. Being served gluten free stuffing with a roast or a Christmas dinner has never happened to me. If you know anyone who works in catering, please share this post with them - it would be nice to change this.

Here are the results of my taste testing:

What a pleasure it would be to be served a gluten free biscuit with my tea or coffee when out and about. We've taste tested sweet biscuits for day five of our 12 days of a gluten free Christmas.

If you, or if you know anyone who works in catering, please point them to our blog by sharing this post. Christmas food is all about the trimmings and often we are left with just the basics. We've done the hard work by tasting the products and recommending the ones we feel are the best.

Day four of our 12 days of a gluten free Christmas takes us to tasting chicken gravy. Gravy is relatively easy to make for a coeliac, but sometimes a 'ping and serve' option may suit a catering environment better.
