Take some of the items in this article with a pinch of salt! However it has some useful points in it and it quotes Peter Salovey, one of the the pioneers of emotional intelligence as saying this: "Though of course some people naturally have a high emotional intelligence, it’s something you can develop. Here’s some tips on how to build up your EQ. One of the best things you can do, according to professors David R. Caruso and Peter Salovey of Yale University, is to think about your own emotions. If you can understand yourself better and what makes you act and react the way you do, you can start to better understand others."
Yes! Emotional self-awareness is a vital step in developing your own emotional intelligence. How good are you at knowing how you feel?

I get fed up with emcees who give such poor thank you to speakers and performers. "Thanks so much, that was marvellous" is not a thank you. it's a platitude. If you are the master of ceremonies find something specific that the person has done or said that you can highlight. For example, "Thank you so much for explaining how you have cured your panic attacks by using meditation, I didn't know they could be cured and you have inspired me to find a local meditation group so I can learn how to do it too. Thank you so much for your generosity of openness and sharing."

Had a great time in the tele-class on job interview skills yesterday - crammed full of information. The participants came from across Australia and from all sectors. We talked about the importance of being able to explain your strengths and not just your past experiences. Everyone had a go at explaining one of their strengths and most were far too general and could have described anyone! Strengths must be specific if you are to have a successful job interview. Ditch the anti-wrinkle creams. If you want to slow down the ageing process meditation might be the answer. A new study shows the epigenetic aging clock runs slower in meditators. "These findings are exciting because they are the first to show that long-term meditation practice can induce a change in the regulation of our genes that influence the biological mechanisms of aging."
