Showing the munchkins the technology of yesteryear in the form of recordings of my parents'  folk group from 1981. I have been the guardian of these artifacts for nearly thirty years now. Mumble mumble memories sentimental musing mumble mumble.

A few years ago, college students were complaining at the difficulty of reading and comprehending The Federalist Papers. Then they were reminded that the Federalist Papers were written by  common folk, not the elite. It underscores the sad state of our education system as it is today. I think the same applies to this instance.

Fin was sweetly sharing her apple with Ealhswith this morning. The older Elly gets, the more fun these two have doing sisterly things :)

Do public schools still teach social studies? I was thinking back to my years there as a child, and remembering how dumb that subject was. Thinking about it now, it seems like social hierarchies and the ins and outs of living in a society were pretty much covered by my parents, not formally, but through example and conversation.

Yes, they do. Texas is unique with out 7th grade Tx History requirement. 6th is world civilizations and 8th is US history up to the civil war-ish. I taught TxHist one year. I love history but the state standards are absolutely total BS. They ignore soooo much and still propagate a lot of not exactly accurate representations that I think frankly make our state that much more special.

+Jeremy Hodges thoughtfully purchased me a 3D puzzle that doubles as an organizer for all my markers and brushes and stuff. Happy Mother's Day to me :-D

According to Fin, this is the appropriate outfit for protecting oneself from an onslaught of wasps. Who am I to argue?

Shaggy awaits his first "real" haircut. He did not want a buzz cut, so we are seeking professional help for him.

Their distribution is expanding. I know some Texans in Nevada who were doing flips when it recently arrived there. One was sorta stalking the truck to make sure and get some. lol

More pics from Free Comic Book Day in Houston. Got our Zita books signed by Ben Hatke, who chatted with my munchkins while he drew Toric an extemporaneous robot. Saw some guy dressed as the Doctor, complete with scarf, sonic screwdriver, and Jelly Babies, and got a few free comics. Pretty good field trip, I'd say.
