Huh. I usually hear this piece with a different arrangement. This is recognizably the same idea but even some of the melodies are changed.
I really like it, though they have serious blend issues.

It is...really hard to photograph jiujitsu well. https://www.flickr.com/photos/mjbaltierra/26023089831/ (To be fair, the guy who did this--thank you so much!--got tons of spectacular action shots from other competitors. But this is the only proof I have that I showed up.) Also, damn that armbar attempt is sloppy.

I don't use an alarm on a day to day basis--my schedule is flexible enough that waking up late isn't a problem (and the variance comes 90% from how long I spend wasting time in bed or around the house in the morning, not when I wake). I like this: my feeling is that if I'm tired, I should sleep, and I will wake up when I'm good and ready and refreshed.
The downside: whenever I do set an alarm, for a flight or early appointment or what have you, I wake up every fifteen minutes starting at 4:00 certain I've overslept.

This is fucking trippy and also excellent. If the opening sentence doesn't hook you... "Honestly, who hasn't woken up in a hospital bed with no memory of how they got there? Like, that's a universal human experience, right? It's not weird? I'm asking because I actually don't know."

Correction, here's a slightly better photo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mjbaltierra/25996908322/ in which I'm about to flip this guy on his ass (bend left hand back to the mat and do a handstand while yanking on the leg). Then I realize I'm holding his ankle, go for a lock, realize I'm neither sure which variant of ankle lock is the single one that's allowed at white belt and won't get me DQ'd, nor sure how to finish it...try to complete the sweep to mount and don't get it. We then go back to a more even fight. (He eventually arm triangles me. Conditioning, man.) But at least you can see me!

I need a pair of pants that are
- flexible enough to move in
- somewhat breathable
- tight enough to show lines (in the ballet sense)
- not so tight that I get complaints about wearing them
so basically, you know, dance pants for men. totally generic dance pants for men.
As far as I can tell, these aren't sold. Even in the Amazon category of MEN'S DANCE APPAREL, there are only two options:
- incredibly baggy parachute pants
- women's pants cut for women in women's sizes with reviews from women
Seriously. Where can I find a cheap, totally anonymous pair of pants I can wear to dance calls and ballet classes?

OK, normally I wouldn't post a shirtless mirror selfie. I'm sorry.
But I woke up this morning for my first BJJ tournament and this is the record I have of feeling ready to go. Right now I feel ready to die (or more likely, drink beer in the hot tub.) I trained hard, prepared hard...but not hard enough. There is nothing, nothing that preps you for how exhausting competition is. You can train as hard as you want in class (not that I did....), but it's just not the same intensity as when you're staring down a stranger with something actually on the line. I won my first match and felt amazing--but could barely stand and was seeing stars.
I did pretty well--2 wins, 2 losses (submission-only tournament), third place overall and I handily kimura'd the winner...so I'm OK with it. Not good enough--anything less than the best is a felony--but a good start.
So time to drill more, get the moves into muscle memory instead of real memory. Time to condition more--longer rounds and less breaks. Ruck with the dogs---no excuse not to get a workout while they do. Cut another ten pounds of dead weight.
I can be better. I will be better.

Current wish: standard-compliant way to do:
std::atomic<uint64_t> x = ...
std::atomic<char> *y = reinterpret_cast<...>(&x);
y[3].load(relaxed); // 4th byte of x!
(No, I don't care at all about endianness. Target app: parallel writers mark array entries done, reader wants to find a done entry without doing narrow reads.)
