Great food at affordable price. this is the place where you can casual bites or slightly up the notch from casual. if you make reservations for special occasion, they actually give you a place to dine in at the cul-de-sac, which is nice. :) granted, this place is definitely a bang for the buck.

Came here for diner about town. Great vibe, great food. Parking is close to impossible though.

Only got the mussels and was disappointed. Hardly any broth and the mussels were dried out

This restaurant used to be a favorite of ours for date night - sadly, that is no longer the case. Last night, the quality of service was so exceptionally poor that I felt compelled to write this review. Our waiter forgot to submit our main course orders, and guests who arrived much later than us were served far earlier. When we asked about the status of our food, the waiter nodded & scampered into the kitchen .... never to be seen again. A series of other servers came by our table, promising that our food was coming out "right away" - 15 minutes later, ie enough time for our order to actually enter the system & get prepared, another server delivered our food ... and spilled water all over the table in the process. Our original waiter surfaced, catered to all the guests around us, but NEVER came back to our table. No apologies for the dreadful service, but he did send over the bill with yet another server (God knows where all these staffers were coming from!!). We thought they might have offered complimentary dessert or perhaps some kind of discount for the appalling evening - nothing. All in all, it was a very disappointing evening at a restaurant that was once a mainstay on Russian Hill. Maybe they'll get their act together again, but we won't know as we are not likely to return after last night. My advice - stay away. There's lots of great choices in the neighborhood & in other parts of the city ...

[This review is regarding a visit in February of 2009] Let me note up front that I really wanted to give this place 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up to make up for all the other "3.5 star" places I gave a 3 to ;) Anyway, here's the lowdown: PARKING: Abysmal. Really really bad. Good luck! AMBIANCE: Meh. Moderately lousy selection of music didn't help. SERVICE: Very good! We were promptly attended to, treated respectfully, and -- this was especially awesome since I find it so rare in America -- LEFT ALONE to linger over our meal for a long time. Granted, this was on a Sunday night and my friend and I were the only diners in the whole place for most of our 3+ hour dinner, but still :). PRICING: Since I was treating my friend, my eyes pretty quickly moved over to the fixed-price menu :-). $28 (+tax & tip) for appetizer, main, and dessert... about what I'd call "average" for the Bay Area, average for a French restaurant, but a bit on the high side otherwise. FOOD PRESENTATION: So-so. Not god-awful, but I expected more from a place like this. Certainly uninspired. FOOD OVERALL: Pretty good but not great. - Ground rabbit compressed into small rectangles (read: pate). I don't recall the French, but I think my title adequately describes it. Came with the little bread crisp things and the mini-pickle-whatchamacalits. Moderately flavorful, but nothing to write home about. - Trout with a massive pile of garlic butter and misc garnishes The garnishes -- rice, spinach, and I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure what the third pile was -- were diminutive but quite tasty. The trout was sizable, cooked perfectly, and slightly overpowered by the 10 pound glop of garlic butter (but it's my fault, I suppose, for gleefully spreading the entire glop onto the fish). - Chocolate pot-de-creme Delicious! Think a very very rich chocolate pudding with a very fine creme-brulee-'ish top layer. * * * Would I come back to this place? Probably not. I think there are other hidden gems in SF that have better parking and more affordable menu choices. And given the lousy music and the very minimal personal space noted by another reviewer (problematic on more popular dining nights), I'd hesitate to take a date here even if I felt like moderately splurging.

We have been going here over the years, we always return at least once, often twice during our trips to San Francisco. The food is consistently prepared with great care and always very tasty. We like the neighborhood feel of the place, gives it a cozy ambiance that is great for a romantic dinner. The service is very attentive and yet you are not rushed, you can set the pace to leisurely enjoy a nice meal. We cannot recommend it highly enough as a place you will thoroughly enjoy and I am certain you will return here as we do on your subsequent visits to the City!

Fantasticly prepared French dishes for a not-unreasonable price. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the chocolate fondant is amazing. I love the tree-lined neighborhood and occasional cable cars.
