How lovely it was spending a day on the lands of Constantia Wine farms, vineyards and beautiful landscapes.

The Constantia Main Road starts the tour with a very nice view of the mountains and the valley. We had an option to visit wine farms and get closer to the feeling of being in one of the most important wine regions in South Africa. Groot Constantia isn’t just traditional wine farms but the oldest wine estate in South Africa, in production for over 330 years.

For a delicious lunch, one can visit the well-known Jonkershuis or Simon's restaurants. Wine museum, traditional wine tasting are part of the daily routines in Groot Constantia. There’s also an option to do wine and chocolate tasting; and to end it up perfectly, Groot Constantia provides its visitors a tour to the back stage to learn everything about wine production.

Eagle's Nest is a nice and peaceful place to do a wine tasting on the yard while having snacks and garnishes. A very good call for a happy hour with friends and family, or enjoy your own company. Beau Constantia is amazing, with its beautiful view of mountains and winery. There is a restaurant available, Chef's Warehouse, which serves good food.

The best thing to do is reserving a day to enjoy the beautiful Constantia region and farms, visiting and spending some hours on each one of the farms, doing whatever you like most! Constantia is full of options for all kind of people and tastes. Enjoy yourself and the sensation of being on this delicious wine route, which is the most spectacular wine experience.

We sent Our Office Manager, Judith, on a full-day Safari tour at Aquila Private Game Reserve, so breath-taking she had this to share:

The day started early, way too early for my liking, but it was definitely worth it. After a 2 hour drive we got to Aquila and were welcomed with a glass of bubbly. I ended up being the only one taking one, but hey who can say no to some bubbly?!

Before we went on the Game Drive, we helped ourselves to a nice breakfast from a big buffet. So after we were all nicely fed (we would have definitely been a great lunch for the lions at that time) we set out in one of the Aquila Jeeps. The drive took about 2 hours and it was truly amazing. Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun; he gave us information about every single animal that we saw. And we saw lots of them, from Hippos to Giraffes, Zebras, Springboks, Rhinos, Elephants and Lions and more.

My first highlight was just a few minutes after we started the drive, we saw a tower (the term for a group of giraffes…see I learned something) of 3 giraffes not too far from our vehicle, looking right at us. I could now go on and on about Giraffes as probably the coolest, badass animals ever, but that would be taking it a bit far. After seeing lots of different animals we set out to the lion enclosure and we were so lucky since they were 2 male and 2 female lions chilling in the shade under some rocks and bushes right by the pathway. Seeing lions so close was a truly amazing experience.

We then had a little pit stop with some more bubbly, another highlight (just kidding… I wasn’t complaining about another glass though). After getting back to the lodge there was another big buffet set up (so yeah people, prepare yourselves for lots of food) After eating way too much there was still time to chill at the pool, for a quick swim and to check out their Animal Rescue & Conservation Centre before we made our way back to Cape Town. All in all, it was a really nice day and experience and I would go again any time.
