"3 of every 10 self-employed workers older than 45 turned to entrepreneurship after being laid off, according to a new AARP survey. And the findings suggest starting a business is a good way for older workers to bounce back: 72 percent of older entrepreneurs said their businesses earned a profit in 2011."

Introduction

SCC's mission is to empower people to achieve economic independence and transform their lives through entrepreneurship and financial asset building.

SCC provides 1-to-1 personalized business coaching and services, including access to micro-loans of $15,000 or less to qualified borrowers through our lending partner Manatee Community Federal Credit Union (MCFCU), in Manatee and Sarasota Counties.  SCC offers a comprehensive approach to business development by providing our clients with financial education and credit-building services.

What is a microbusiness? It’s any type of small business that has fewer than five employees and is small enough to benefit from loans of under $50,000. In general, microbusinesses do not meet the credit and/or collateral requirements necessary to access conventional financial services.

Suncoast Community Capital’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is available FREE for low- to moderate-income (less than $49,000) people who cannot prepare their tax returns on their own.  Our IRS-certified community volunteers help clients with special credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), to maximize their refund or reduce their tax liability.
