After spending the day with Joaquim Lourenço, I understand why answering “Can you introduce yourself” was not easy for him. He enjoys doing many things: poetry, photography, woodwork, drawing, painting, and teaching. He embraces the experiment and trying something new. When he talks about being an art teacher, his face lights up. Clearly, he enjoys this day job. But he is unmistakably an artist at heart. He tells me: “Being a teacher is the outside of me. The artist is my inside.”

Joaquim Lourenço was born in Mozambique and has long since been living in, and painting from, his beloved Lisbon, Portugal. As an art teacher, Joaquim considers drawing a huge part of his work. Inspired by peculiar little details in everyday-life observations, Joaquim uses bright, vibrant colours and deliberate lines when creating his art.

A selection of Joaquim’s work is included in our “Art Without Borders” exhibition. Tickets for the opening are free, available via Eventbrite:

A two-hour train ride takes me to Eibergen, the Netherlands, where I am about to meet Dutch artist, Janet Timmerije. My second visit to this productive artist who gives workshops; does art history projects for kids; and who paints pottery. But painting, preferably on extra large canvasses, is her life. That, and being a mom to her four children (and let’s not forget her two dogs).

Janet did not start out an artist. Although her interests have always been with Arts and Fashion, she simply was not ready as a young woman. Her choice back then was to become a Speech Therapist. Only slowly, over the years, she returned to her first love: painting. She painted what she liked. People loved what she did, and showed an interest in purchasing her works. More and more, she developed her own, very characteristic style. Before long, a local gallery granted Janet her first exhibition and she sold out! More galleries followed and the rest is history. She has been in her studio daily for the past 18 years. An established artist now, with her work featured in galleries and exhibitions all over the world.

A selection of Janet Timmerije's work is included in our “Art without Borders” exhibition.

Send us a PM when interested in joining us to celebrate the opening of our Gallery in Bragg Creek and enjoy these beautiful works.
Date: December 8

Janet Timmerije’s paintings are an absolute joy to experience. Could there be something like “comfort art”? If there is, it would Janet’s work.

Free and intuitive, a new canvas often starts with only a rough vision of where she is taking it. Initially working with only one colour, like yellow, allows her to easily change direction. Then more colours are introduced and a new work is shaping up. Janet works on multiple paintings at a time, with big brushes and lots of movement. From one work to the other and back again, her creative process is not structured. She is a free spirit and enjoys the freedom that painting provides.

We had the pleasure to visit Janet in her home country of the Netherlands. A full account of this visit is available for you on our Blog page: https://wp.me/p9k8w5-iK

Enjoy!

‘’Art washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life.’’ — Pablo Picasso

Julie Edwards on “Enlightenment”: Within natural wonders, “Enlightenment” attempts to allow you to escape the horrors of our current, uncertain world. I am hoping that this painting is a visual seduction for you. An idea of setting out on a path with risks, holding both exciting opportunities as well as unknown tensions.”

Julie invites the viewer into the depths of this painting; filling you with hope, light and warmth towards humanity. We’ll have a selection of Julie’s work available onsite at our Gallery. Official opening December 8th! Stay tuned for the details.

“The promise of a storm in the hottest of summers, when the ground scorches naked soles, is a wondrous thing!” — Magdalena Morey

Magdalena likes to include gold leaf as a way to express the heat and luminous intensity of the sun. She adores the potential interplays of texture, reflectivity, and colour that this mixed media approach allows her. Using watercolours allows her to tint the metallic reflections, leading to the colours changing continually with the viewer’s perspective and the lighting conditions.

“Heat Haze 2” is available for rent and for sale via our website: https://tryitart.com/artwork/magdalena-morey-heat-haze-2/
Size: 19.7 x 19.7 in.

“The surreal landscape reminds of a place that may exist in our imagination when we take refuge and want to escape.
The vibrant colors and pure pigments give energy while the small focal point on the horizon signifies a place of hope.
Even if it is not in close reach yet having the courage to look beyond.” — Claudia Limacher, on “Atlantis”

* Size: 40.6 x 29 inch
* Mixed-media: acrylic, oil, pigments, pastels, and spray
paint
* Beautifully framed and ready to hang

Incredibly proud to introduce you to our new artist, Bernard Cociancig.

After a long career as an executive in the petroleum industry, Bernhard pursued an artistic career later in life. A contemporary artist with great sense of socio-ecological responsibility, his artwork comes with a message. He tries to incorporate his concerns about discrimination, corruption, global warming, endangered wildlife, and other social and ecological issues, into his artwork.

A full account of our meeting with this extraordinary man to follow soon. For now, we think you’ll enjoy his impressive artwork, consisting of 5 oil/mixed media paintings and 5 Mokulito prints with a focus on Africa’s Big Five: called “Skin of the Game”.

For more information on this talented artist and this special series of artwork, we would like to refer you to our website:
