Hi everyone! The roller derby team I coach is trying to raise funds to get their travel team traveling this year. Can you help me help them raise funds?

Lazyweb: if I wanted to consume, say, only creator owned content for a month, where would the best place to start be?

For music, bandcamp.com has a lot (though it's not exclusively creator owned, I think), as does freemusicarchive.org.

New Citation Needed - the common misinterpretation of this particular phrase...
Citation Needed. I'm Moriah, an artist. I live with a geek. Hilarity ensues. Last · First Previous. I don't think that means what you think it means. Last · First Previous. Copyright 2012 © Mo...

This is a must read. No, serious, read it all. Every single bit of it. It can't be said enough. Every UDS I've ever been to has been very much like this. Talks and then booze. Every. Day.

I had the privilege of tagging along with +Sean Reifschneider at PyCon, and since he's a PyCon veteran AND doesn't really drink either, the experience was so much better.

Paul, I can sympathise with that description. There was one party in Belgium where I suppose I was tired and antisocial and loud music and loud intoxicated people were very unappealing. Though, really, loud music and loud sober people would have been just as bad, for the way I was that day. But there were other options.

I hope the future finds more of this. "Okay, so you're out of the closet. Hooray for you. Will you please fix your CSS?"

I would also question his homosexuality if he had not style sheet. :-)

My youngest brother +Matt Hummer is gearing up to be my (paid) intern next week (his spring break). Yesterday, he had questions about unit testing, so I hopped on a Google Hangout with him and walked him through it almost entirely by asking questions.

One of the stipulations of being my intern is that he has to blog every day about his progress and what he's been doing. Here's his blog post about what he learned from testing.
Well, it’s been a while, but it was time to write some python again. We’re learning to write Unit Tests. Of course, testing code is kind of a useless skill without some code to test. So...

Another stipulation of being your intern is getting a haircut. It won't be long before you're saying "you kids get off my lawn!"

+Alex Chiang and I are finally at a point where we'd like to show you what we've been building...

ReadRaven is a new feed reader, built because Google Reader was shutting down. More importantly, it's geared towards actually being beholden to your customers, and serving them. We want to provide a service that is around forever, that will never be acquired, and will never sell your data to advertisers.

Read your feeds. Create personal data. Know that it's safe.  I'd invite you all to try it.
A world-class feed reader forever. Absolute respect for you and your data. Your reading habits are intimately yours, and they should stay that way. ReadRaven is a long-term project designed and built to help you read the feeds you love, forever. Import your existing data today, before Google ...

I'm using User Voice on my current products, and I think it provides a nice email-only workflow for those that prefer it while also providing a nice user-feedback widget and support ticket tracking.

This is an AMAZING talk! Life-changing stuff! It's an hour long, Jump to 2:59 and give it two minutes, at that point I was hooked! If that doesn't do it, jump to 12:30 for 2 minutes. Think it's only for graphics? Jump to 18:05 for 3 minutes.

Two nights ago, I had enough, and starting writing this post. I wrote it and re-wrote it, and last night I scheduled it and left it at that.
Hi Mormons. I’m a Mormon too. I attend my church meetings, pay a full tithe, and hold a leadership calling in the church (not my idea!). I have to tell you something. You might not like it. You guys.....

Yes, but slightly frightening is excellent. It's the terrifying that's not so cool...

You're still winning :-)

Naturally, it makes sense that All Star gets All The Stars™. Having people in our home isn't something we do often enough, and so we have a dog that is generally assertive of his home. Both Nakita and Erin have gotten their entry ritual down to a science, as they come in, immediately drop their stuff off and spend a few minutes paying attention to the dog; it's this small detail that I've come to find invaluable in them. They do a great job cleaning (seriously it's amazing), but it's the specific details to my house/situation/family that I love the most about them.
