The Golden Hind lives up to its hype. The haddock and cod are indistinguishable as usual, but the batter is nicely done. Skip the fries and mushy peas. These are mere distractions on your road to fried fish. Service is speedy considering how they don't fry the fish until you order. Much cheaper to get your food for takeaway, but beware of how the parks in West London are gated and private (boooo), but Hyde Park isn't all that far. We just gave up getting to the grass itself and ate it under the Marble Arch amidst pigeon poos.

This place is amazing! I've been there in August to taste the orginal fish and chips. The atmosphere is informal and casual, the staff is kind and friendly and the food is tasteful and delicious! As regards the alchool, you have to bring it from the outside and, in my opinion, this is good because it avoids to be sorrounded by drunkers :) MUST GO THERE!

The fish was really fresh and flaky and the chips really cripsy and not at all greasy - perfect, easily some of the best in London. Portion sizes pretty impressive too, particularly if you take away. Like the fact that it's bring your own, we came here after work with a couple of bottles and it worked out to be very reasonable. The restaurant and service is no-frills but very efficient, the food is the main attraction for this place.

I went there tonight for fish and chips as my last meal in London, but the credit card didn't work when I tried to pay... Tony, I guess the owner, after having tried several times with the machine, knowing it'd be my last day in London, said 'you are an honest person. No worries, it's okay.' Since I didn't have enough cash on me to pay for the full bill, I offered to give him everything I had. Tony wasn't gonna take it until I assured him that I had enough money on my oyster card to get back. I don't know if I will be back to this restaurant in the near future, but writing a review might be the best way to pass on this kind gesture. I just wanna say that an owner with such kindness probably makes really awesome food.

Working in the wine trade, discovering not-so-advertised-off-the-beaten-path restaurants where one can BYO are fabulous! Feeling so smug with my bottle of Veuve (which you can buy from the Tesco across the, the group I was with were knocked back a notch when we had to queue for about 20 mins in the tiny doorway blocked by annoying, large buggies. But since it was about 8:30pm on a Friday night it wasn't a huge surprise. Just that there really isn't a place to wait for a table indoors. The Golden Hind does to take-away orders for those who cannot be bothered to queue, or who are fortunate enough to live walking distance. About the food - just what you'd expect of a proper fish and chip joint, and all the sides you'd expect to add onto your plate of fish. The staff were thorough, courteous and did an excellent job tidying/cleaning the tables after each patron finished. Not a fancy place, but if you like great fish and chips, and really like the idea of bringing what you like to drink for £1, then this is not a place in London to miss out on. Lastly, there is a large, basement seating area which can be hired out for large groups!

Great fish and chips. Went with the standard cod, chips, and mushy peas. Not at all greasy, flaky and fresh, the batter is obviously very good. Never had mushy peas before, really tasty.

Where I had the best fish&chips. Japanese are welcomed with various magazines on which this restaurant is introduced.
