If we want to stop bullying and mob attacks we have to encourage children to choose to leave uncomfortable situations. We must support their bucking of peer pressure.

Fred and I were talking about the rumour that Dr. Ford's father would not support her by saying he believed she had been a survivor of sexual assault because it would jeopardize his standing at his golf club. Fred just could not believe a father would not support a child even if he didn't support the adult. I said that's why she didn't report it as a teen but just dealt with it. He flat out said parents don't treat their children like that.

We've both never been without parental support. I was drawn to Fred's family just because they were so clearly supportive. I had a much more contentious relationship with my parents in my teens, but in the end, they were always there for me regardless of how much they disapproved of what I was doing. I've seen what happens when parents don't. I guess Fred hasn't.

Tonight's comic is about the most important thing I ever learned on the internet.

Even I, your hero, am guilty of this sometimes.

Will It Blend? Google Data Studio Rolls out Data Blending
#measure #analytics

"We knew it was coming, we waited for it, and now it’s finally here! Data blending is in Google Analytics, and it. is. glorious. The nice part about being the upcomer on the data viz scene is that the playbook is already scripted out, the questions become “which features do we prioritize?” and “when?”. The exact way that features are implemented can be drastically different but the underlying principles are the same, like joining data sources or as Data Studio calls it, ‘data blending’."

Google now using structured data to facilitate user-initiated play of media from search results or the Google Assistant

As per the call-out link, Google has added support for "Media Actions" which "enable users to initiate media content (e.g. songs, albums, movies) on content provider applications via Google Search and the Google Assistant."

Unsurprisingly the structured data Google relies upon to accomplish this are chiefly the schema.org/Action hierarchy, as well as schemas pertinent to the implicated media types.

It also leverages schema.org/DataFeed as a "envelop" that contains all the data items from a publisher, provided in the form of a page-independent JSON-LD feed (http://bit.ly/2JGNaGD). And there's a new validation tool for such data feeds (http://bit.ly/2t2XvCk).

Read more about it in the post, but there's lots about this newly-support content type that I haven't explored. For example the specs employ both the schema.org/URL property and the JSON-LD @id key. Interestingly the latter does not need to be resolvable (does not need to be a working URL).

Marcel Freinbichler on Twitter:
Because of #GDPR, USA Today decided to run a separate version of their website for EU users, which has all the tracking scripts and ads removed. The site seemed very fast, so I did a performance audit. How fast the internet could be without all the junk! 🙄
