This year's Bentonville Film Festival will be held May 3-8 and will be more diverse! "The goal of the festival is not just to showcase women and diversity—it’s to really have a proactive and powerful effect on the industry,” says Davis, BFF co-founder and founder and chair of the nonprofit Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. “We’re intent on being extremely proactive in showing the films that include women and that are very commercial. Our goal is to show that this is the direction in which things are heading and we should get there sooner.” http://ow.ly/RteUy

Wonder Woman, Jessica Jones and Supergirl mark the return of the TV super heroine. "I think this genre is just catching up to the reality of how powerful, interesting and complicated women are. I'm happy to see the dawn of women superheroes, so to speak, but I feel like it's about time. My hope is that there will be so many female heroes that we won't have to talk about the fact that they are female heroes; they will just be heroes." -Supergirl executive producer Sarah Schechter

Meet Deborah Snyder, one of our panelists at our upcoming See Jane Salon "Power To Greenlight" September 1. She develops and produces visually arresting films that are both thought provoking and entertaining. Bringing a unique, consumer-minded vision to each project she takes on, Snyder is heavily involved with the creative marketing and advertising strategy behind her films, applying her previous experience in the advertising industry. As Co-President of Cruel & Unusual Films, formed with her producing partner Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder stands among the top producers in the entertainment industry.

Up next Snyder is producing the highly anticipated Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams. The DC Comics superhero film will be released by Warner Bros in March 2016, and is a follow-up to Man of Steel, which Snyder also produced alongside Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan. That film was released by Warner Bros. in June 2013 and earned over $650 million at the worldwide box office.

Snyder is also an executive producer on David Ayer’s upcoming Suicide Squad, starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and Margot Robbie. Warner Bros. will release the film, based on supervillains, in August 2016. Additionally she is a producer on Wonder Woman, currently in pre-production starring Gal Gadot.

Snyder most recently produced the blockbuster 300: Rise of an Empire, directed by Noam Murro from a script co-written by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad. The film, which was released by Warner Bros. in March of 2014, is the sequel the 2007 film 300, which her company produced and was written and directed by Zack Snyder.

Snyder previously produced Warner Bros.’ Sucker Punch, an action fantasy that follows a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality; the film, written and directed by Zack Snyder, opened in March 2011. In addition, she is presently developing a wide range of projects under the Cruel & Unusual banner, including: The Last Photograph, with a story by Zack Snyder and screenplay by Kurt Johnstad; Army of the Dead, an action-thriller written by Joby Harold, from an original story by Zack Snyder; and Illusions, based on the novel by Richard Bach.

Snyder made her producing debut as an executive producer on the worldwide hit feature 300, inspired by the Frank Miller graphic novel and directed by Zack Snyder. A breakout success, 300 took in more than $70 million at the box office in its opening weekend and went on to gross over $450 million worldwide. Snyder then produced Zack Snyder’s critically acclaimed Watchmen, the long-awaited adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel, and executive produced the animated adventure Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. http://ow.ly/RtxLx
